WEEKEND READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Saturday: Acts 4:13-21; Ps. 118:1 and 14-15ab, 16-18, 19-21;
Mk 16:9-15
Sunday: Acts 2:42-47; Ps 118:2-4, 13-15, 22-24; 1 Pt
1:3-9; Jn 20:19-31
R. (1) Give thanks to the LORD, for he is good, his love is
everlasting.
Let the house of Israel say,
"His mercy endures forever."
Let the house of Aaron say,
"His mercy endures forever."
Let those who fear the LORD say,
"His mercy endures forever."
I was hard pressed and was falling,
but the LORD helped me.
My strength and my courage is the LORD,
and he has been my savior.
The joyful shout of victory
in the tents of the just:
The stone which the builders rejected
has become the cornerstone.
By the LORD has this been done;
it is wonderful in our eyes.
This is the day the LORD has made;
let us be glad and rejoice in it.

SAINT OF THE WEEK
- April 3: Saints Agape, Irene and Chione.
The names of these three martyrs of Thessalonika in Northern Greece
mean 'Love', 'Peace' and 'White-as-Snow'. During the persecution of
Emperor Maximian they took to a mountain hermitage, and were
arrested, with others, under Diocletian (303). Refusing to eat food
offered to idols, they were condemned as traitors; Agape and Chione
were burnt alive, the others, being under age, were imprisoned.
Irene was re-examined and admitted owning works of Scripture and
defying her father by leaving home. She was sentenced to be
confined in a brothel, but no man dared come near her, and
eventually she too was burnt.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
"Counsels of Light and Love of St. John of the Cross," by Thomas
Merton. Hidden Spring, 2007.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1587680459/christianspiritu/
St. John of the Cross's doctrine is clearly based on the sermon on
the mount, the profound discourses in the Gospel of St. John, and
especially on the Passion and Resurrection of Jesus. His writings
have many hard sayings, just as the words of Jesus did.
Spelled out in various ways is the love and will of God, versus
love and gratification of self. St. John doesn't treat this
mechanically; he talks in the concrete. He says one's unruly urges
can draw one into a state of blindness and exile from God. But the
very urgent inspirations of the Holy Spirit move in loving and
peaceful ways.
This book is a manual of simple cautions and points of light and
love from a great mystic. It is intended for religious and lay
persons who are eager to reach peace of spirit and the intimacy of
divine life.

Go to the URL and click the "Launch Project" button. Type the name
"Jesus" (no quotes) in the Search field, then when it's done, click
the "Create Montage" button. Et voila. You can use another
search, of course.
Now what do you do with this? You can select it as a screenshot
and use it as a poster or something. I don't know. Just makes a
cool montage, that's for sure, and gives you a preview of images
you can click on and open, full-size.

JOKE OF THE WEEK
A woman took her four-year-old granddaughter to a baptismal service
at her church. Later that night, the child took all of her dolls
into the bathtub with her and held her own "baptism."
As she dunked each doll under the water, she repeated, "Now I
baptize you in the name of the Father, the Son, and hold your nose."
- Thank you, Paula
