WEEKEND READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Saturday: Hos 6:1-6; 51:3-4, 18-19, 20-21ab; Lk 18:9-14
Sunday: 1 Sm 16:1b, 6-7, 10-13a; Ps 23: 1-3a, 3b-4, 5, 6;
Eph 5:8-14; Jn 9:1-41
R. (1) The Lord is my shepherd; there is nothing I shall want.
The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.
He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage.
You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
you anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.
Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
and I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.

SAINT OF THE WEEK
- March 3rd. St. Aelred (1110-1167).
Born at Hexham in Northumberland and educated in Durham he was a
member of the royal household of King David I of Scotland before he
became a monk of the recently established Yorkshire Cistercian
monastery of Rievaulx. Held in high esteem by his community, he
became, after a four-year spell at another house in Lincolnshire
Abbot of Rievaulx, which by then had become the largest religious
house in England. Aelred's sensitive temperament did much to soften
the rigorous tone of Cistercian religious life, and attracted many
to the Order. In 1163 he was chosen to preach on the occasion of
the establishment of the shrine of St. Edward the Confessor in
Westminster Abbey. He wrote a life of St. Edward, and other works
including his most famous: his Treatise on Friendship. His last
years were marked by a very painful illness which forced him to
live apart from the community and he died at Rievaulx on January
12, 1167. He was never formally canonised, but his cult became
popular especially in North Eastern England through the influence
of his Order.

WEB SITE OF THE WEEK
Star Quest Production Network
- http://www.sqpn.com/
Podcasts on a wide variety of topics. Their mission statement
reads as follows:
"SQPN (Star Quest Production Network) is a multimedia organization
specializing in the production of audio and video programs faithful
to the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church. Its mission is to
respond to the Church's call to use the media for religious
information, for evangelization and catechesis and for formation
and education¹.
"These audio and video productions are made in different languages
and are aimed at an international audience. They focus on building
bridges between the dominant popular culture of the Western world
and the religious culture and tradition of the Catholic Church in
order to reach an audience that has little or no relationship with
that Church."

JOKE OF THE WEEK
A circus owner walked into a bar to see everyone crowded about a
table watching a little show. On the table was an upside-down pot
and a duck tap dancing on it. The circus owner was so impressed
that he offered to buy the duck from its owner. After some wheeling
and dealing they settled for $10,000 for the duck and the pot.
Three days later the circus owner runs back to the bar in anger,
"Your duck is a rip-off! I put him on the pot before a whole
audience and he didn't dance a single step!"
"So?" asked the ducks former owner, "did you remember to light the
candle under the pot?"
(OK, before the animal rights people come after me, here's another
one . . .)
Tammy and Ann were shopping. When they started to discuss their
home lives, Tammy said, "Seems like all Alfred and I do anymore is
fight. I've been so upset I've lost 20 pounds."
"Why don't you just leave him then ?" said Ann.
"Oh ! Not yet." Tammy replied, "I'd like to lose at least another
ten to fifteen pounds first."
