SCRIPTURE READINGS

1 Mc 1:10-15, 41-43, 54-57, 62-63; Ps 119:53, 61, 134, 150, 155,
158; Lk 18:35-43
R. (see 88) Give me life, O Lord, and I will do your commands.
Indignation seizes me because of the wicked
who forsake your law.
Though the snares of the wicked are twined about me,
your law I have not forgotten.
Redeem me from the oppression of men,
that I may keep your precepts.
I am attacked by malicious persecutors
who are far from your law.
Far from sinners is salvation,
because they seek not your statutes.
I beheld the apostates with loathing,
because they kept not to your promise.

- Luke 18: 35-43 (The blind see)
Today we reflect on another example of the value of persistence.
The blind man will not he denied his opportunity to meet Jesus and
request healing from him. Jesus rewards his faith by granting his
request.
- Jesus must have known what the blind man wanted, so why did he
ask, "What do you want me to do for you?"
- Do you find it difficult to articulate your needs to others? If
so, how are they to know how you need them to love you?

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY

270. Man's death is necessary. To be united to God, when he is a
sinner, he must be thoroughly emptied of himself.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)
1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
