MESSAGE OF THE DAY

God is nearer to us than anyone at any time. He is nearer to me
than my raiment, nearer than the air or light, nearer than my wife,
father, mother, daughter, son, or friend. I live in Him, soul and
body. I breathe in Him, think in Him, feel, consider, intend,
speak, undertake, work in Him. "For in Him we live, and move, and
have our being."
- John of Kronstadt

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Wis 7:22b-8:1; Ps 119:89, 90, 91, 130, 135, 175; Lk 17:20-25

R. (89a) Your word is for ever, O Lord.

Your word, O LORD, endures forever;
it is firm as the heavens.

Through all generations your truth endures;
you have established the earth, and it stands firm.

According to your ordinances they still stand firm:
all things serve you.

The revelation of your words sheds light,
giving understanding to the simple.

Let your countenance shine upon your servant,
and teach me your statutes.

Let my soul live to praise you,
and may your ordinances help me.

Praying the Daily Gospels
- by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 17: 20-25 (The kingdom among us)

An erroneous translation in the past said that 'The kingdom of God
is within you." The more correct translation is "The kingdom of God
is among you." The implication of the new translation is that God's
Spirit is most active in our relationships with one another.

- Where do you look for God? How can you tell when you are
experiencing God?

- Spend some time with the passage "The reign of God is
already in your midst." Pray for the grace to recognize God's
presence throughout the day.

THE IMITATION OF CHRIST
- by Thomas a Kempis -

(A prayer)

Behold, eating, drinking, clothing, and other necessities that
sustain
the body are burdensome to the fervent soul. Grant me the grace
to use
such comforts temperately and not to become entangled in too
great a
desire for them. It is not lawful to cast them aside completely,
for
nature must be sustained, but Your holy law forbids us to demand
superfluous things and things that are simply for pleasure, else
the
flesh would rebel against the spirit. In these matters, I beg, let
Your hand guide and direct me, so that I may not overstep the
law in
any way.
