MESSAGE OF THE DAY
"Religion might well be thought of as matter-of-factness, since it
deals with the supreme Fact. But to see it so we need to be aware
that God is not only 'in heaven,' but within us and all about us.
Our sense of God in His height needs as its complement a feeling
for God in His fullness, a recognition that 'the world is charged
with the grandeur of God'; and not only with His grandeur, but with
His lowliness. For we are often nearer to reality when we stoop
than when we aspire to the heights."
- Dom Aelred Graham, "Zen Catholicism"

Praying the Daily Gospels
- by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 21:1-4 (True giving)
During this last week of the Church's liturgical year, we will
consider some of the most important of all Christian truths.
Today's short reading teaches us that when we give of our excess we
have given very little of ourselves. Real giving involves risk--
not only of financial resources, but of mental and spiritual
resources also.
- "The door into the kingdom of God opens from the inside out" is
a popular saying. "You may have an abundance for every good work,"
Paul added (2 Corinthians 9:7). How do you understand these
adages? Have you experienced these truths working in your life
recently? How can you work them today?
- Pray for the grace to recognize opportunities to give of yourself.

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY
from http://www.innerexplorations.com/chtheomortext/theolgems.htm
272 -- The Gospel is full of God's excessive love for us. God
conceived the idea of showing how He can love us.
274. Once mankind has become the object of this inexplicable
tenderness, everything is accounted for, everything falls into
place naturally, indeed everything has already taken place in
principle. Nothing remains but to transfer to time and to apply to
mankind what has already been decided and hence is supereminently
real in God's eternal omnipotence.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)
1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
