MESSAGE OF THE DAY

- All Saints Day -

The hero is one who kindles a great light in the world, who sets up
blazing torches in the dark streets of life for others to see by.
The saint is the one who walks through the dark paths of the world,
being him- or herself a light.
- Felix Adler

(Spend some time thanking God for all the men and women through
history who have been such lights to you and to the world.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Rv 7:2-4, 9-14; Ps 24:1bc-2, 3-4ab, 5-6; 1 Jn 3:1-3; Mt 5:1-12a

R. (see 6) Lord, this is the people that longs to see your face.

The LORD's are the earth and its fullness;
the world and those who dwell in it.
For he founded it upon the seas
and established it upon the rivers.

Who can ascend the mountain of the LORD?
or who may stand in his holy place?
One whose hands are sinless, whose heart is clean,
who desires not what is vain.

He shall receive a blessing from the LORD,
a reward from God his savior.
Such is the race that seeks him,
that seeks the face of the God of Jacob.

Scripture Meditation

The scriptures present us with the choice between two kingdoms --
the kingdom of light and the kingdom of darkness. The choice is
ours. Which kingdom do you serve? God's kingdom lasts forever
because it is built on the foundation of God's love and justice.
To accept Jesus as Lord and King is to enter a kingdom that will
last forever where righteousness, love, truth, and peace dwell. Is
your life submitted to the Lordship of Jesus?

"Lord Jesus Christ, you are my King and there is no other. May
your love rule in my heart that I may think and act with charity
towards all.

THE IMITATION OF CHRIST
- by Thomas a Kempis -

The Disciple

IT IS the mark of a perfect person, Lord, never to let the mind
relax in
attention to heavenly things, and to pass through many cares as
though
he had none; not as an indolent man does, but having by the
certain
prerogative of a free mind no disorderly affection for any created
being.

Keep me, I beg You, most merciful God, from the cares of this
life,
lest I be too much entangled in them. Keep me from many
necessities of
the body, lest I be ensnared by pleasure. Keep me from all
darkness of
mind, lest I be broken by troubles and overcome. I do not ask
deliverance from those things which worldly vanity desires so
eagerly,
but from those miseries which, by the common curse of humankind,
oppress the soul of Your servant in punishment and keep him from
entering into the liberty of spirit as often as he would.
