ANNUAL APPEAL

It's that time of the year again when I take a week to encourage
your financial support of Daily Spiritual Seed and the Internet
ministry of Heartland Center for Spirituality. This includes all
that goes on through the Shalom Place website:
- written resources like eBooks, worksheets, pamphlets
- online retreats and workshops
- audio teachings on a wide range of issues
- spiritual direction connections
- discussion forum resource center

If you're new to Daily Seed and haven't spent much time at Shalom
Place, you might take a few moments to do so:
- see http://shalomplace.com/

Coordinating this ministry is part of my contract with Heartland
Center for Spirituality, and it takes time -- lots of time! -- each
week to do so. We do generate some income from eBook sales and
online programs, but not nearly enough to pay for my time. That's
why we rely on donations to help make up the difference.

Thanks for considering our need.

- be sure to read Friday's appeal note to learn more about the
gratitude gift for this year; it's a good one.

MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Neither go back in fear and misgiving to the past, nor in anxiety
and forecasting to the future, but lie quiet under His hand, having
no will but His.

- H. E. Manning

Preach the gospel everyday; if necessary, use words.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Wis 1:1-7; Ps 139:1b-3, 4-6, 7-8, 9-10; Lk 17:1-6

R. (24b) Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

O LORD, you have probed me and you know me;
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.
My journeys and my rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.

Even before a word is on my tongue,
behold, O LORD, you know the whole of it.
Behind me and before, you hem me in
and rest your hand upon me.
Such knowledge is too wonderful for me;
too lofty for me to attain.

Where can I go from your spirit?
From your presence where can I flee?
If I go up to the heavens, you are there;
if I sink to the nether world, you are present there.

If I take the wings of the dawn,
if I settle at the farthest limits of the sea,
Even there your hand shall guide me,
and your right hand hold me fast.

Praying the Daily Gospels
- by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 17: 1-6 (The importance of good example)

Because God reveals himself to us through human behavior, those of
us committed to following Jesus Christ should be especially careful
not to scandalize the innocent and the ignorant. It is, therefore,
our duty to confront one another when we veer away from a life of
love.

- He who cannot forgive breaks the bridge over which he
himself must pass," George Herbert wrote. How does withholding
forgiveness hurt you?

- Is there a friend or loved one whose alcohol and/ or drug
use concerns you? If you are not sure how to confront this person,
call a substance abuse counselor for help.

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY
from http://www.innerexplorations.com/chtheomortext/theolgems.htm

264. Death, for the soul, is the passage from a formative stage to
a definitive stage.

269. For a person who is absolutely without sin, death could be
very gentle. In the state of original innocence... the transition was
not even death, but a simple passing from the formative state to
the definitive state.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)

1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
