MESSAGE OF THE DAY
I have read Plato and Cicero sayings that are very wise and
beautiful; but I never read in either of them: "Come unto me all ye
that labour and are heavy laden and I will give thee rest."
- Augustine

SCRIPTURE READINGS

Rom 4:20-25; Luke 1:69-70, 71-72, 73-75; Lk 12:13-21
R. (see 68) Blessed be the Lord, the God of Israel; he has come to
his people.
He has come to his people and set them free.
He has raised up for us a mighty savior,
born of the house of his servant David.
Through his holy prophets he promised of old
that he would save us from our enemies,
from the hands of all who hate us.
He promised to show mercy to our fathers
and to remember his holy covenant.
This was the oath he swore to our father Abraham:
to set us free from the hands of our enemies,
free to worship him without fear,
holy and righteous in his sight all the days of our life.

- Luke 12: 13-21 (On materialism)
We should never make the mistake of assuming that Christianity is
completely unconcerned with material goods. How cruel it would be
for a Christian to chide a hungry or unemployed person because he
or she is not concerned about spiritual matters! Jesus recognizes
our human need for basic material goods but warns us not to rely on
these transient riches for security.
- Spend some time with the verse "Though one may be rich,
one's life does not consist of possessions." What or who can
guarantee life?
- Is it possible for a person to be a follower of Jesus and
be wealthy? Why? Why not?

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY
from http://www.innerexplorations.com/chtheomortext/theolgems.htm
253. Whoever does evil breaks with the infinite Being and with his
own nature; this is sin... At death, when man will discover himself
everlastingly, he will see how contrary to nature it is to be a
sinner, at odds with himself and with Being. This will be his hell.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)
1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
