MESSAGE OF THE DAY

"Waiting on God is a bore; but what fun to argue, to score off
opponents, to lose one's temper and call it 'righteous
indignation,' and at last to pass from controversy to blows, from
words to what St. Augustine so deliciously described as the
'beningnant asperity' of persecution and punishment."
- Aldous Huxley, "The Perennial Philosophy"

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Rom 8:12-17; Ps 68:2 and 4, 6-7ab, 20-21; Lk 13:10-17

R. (21a) Our God is the God of salvation.

God arises; his enemies are scattered,
and those who hate him flee before him.
But the just rejoice and exult before God;
they are glad and rejoice.

The father of orphans and the defender of widows
is God in his holy dwelling.
God gives a home to the forsaken;
he leads forth prisoners to prosperity.

Blessed day by day be the Lord,
who bears our burdens; God, who is our salvation.
God is a saving God for us;
the LORD, my Lord, controls the passageways of death.

Praying the Daily Gospels

- Luke 13: 10-17 (Jesus heals on the Sabbath)

Today's reading teaches us an important lesson. Because Jesus heals
a woman on the Sabbath, he provokes the wrath of the chief of the
synagogue. He responds to this indignation by pointing out that
people are more important than animals and laws. Christianity alone
is the religion of the Individual.

- Do you believe that the Spirit of Jesus heals today? If you
do, then how is God effecting healing through you?

- Have you neglected contacting certain friends and family
members lately? Resolve to communicate during the coming week with
at least two with whom you have lost touch.

254. God is and remains infinite goodness; and that is the basic
reason why privation of Him is infinitely evil.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)

1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
