MESSAGE OF THE DAY

One needs the sweetness to start one on the spiritual life but,
once started, one must learn to obey God for his own sake, not for
the pleasure.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Ez 1:1-6; Ps 126:1b-2ab, 2cd-3, 4-5, 6; Lk 8:16-18

R. (3) The Lord has done marvels for us.

When the LORD brought back the captives of Zion,
we were like men dreaming.
Then our mouth was filled with laughter,
and our tongue with rejoicing.

Then they said among the nations,
"The LORD has done great things for them."
The LORD has done great things for us;
we are glad indeed.

Restore our fortunes, O LORD,
like the torrents in the southern desert.
Those that sow in tears
shall reap rejoicing.

Although they go forth weeping,
carrying the seed to be sown,
They shall come back rejoicing,
carrying their sheaves.

Luke 8: 16-18 (Parable of the lamp)

God has blessed us with innumerable graces, bringing light to our
lives. With grace comes the responsibility to extend grace to
others. When we do so, we discover that special dynamism alluded
to by Luke in today's reading. Those who risk and who engage
themselves in life will grow in grace and experience; those who do
nothing will regress.

- Make a list of the ten people to whom you are closest. How does
each person enrich your life? What would your life be like without
these people? Thank God for the graces they bring to you.

- If you don't use it, you lose it" is an old biological dictum.
Have you been remiss in investing any of your gifts in the service
of the kingdom lately? Are you willing to let yourself regress in
this area?

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY
from http://www.innerexplorations.com/chtheomortext/theolgems.htm

233. The humanity of Christ... truly causes humans to be
supernaturally more human.

To be human means that one is disposed to experience and live in
oneself what others feel, to live their lives in oneself.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)

1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
