MESSAGE OF THE DAY

The Church is the Body of Christ, and the Spirit is the Spirit of
Christ. He fills the Body, directs its movements, controls its
members, inspires its wisdom, supplies it's strength. He guides
into truth, sanctifies its agents, and empowers for witnessing. The
Spirit has never abdicated His authority nor relegated His power.
- Samuel Chadwick

(Thank goodness. And this relationship between the Spirit and the
Church is one good reason why Christians ought to be involved in a
Christian community.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS

Neh 8:1-4a, 5-6, 7b-12; Ps 19:8, 9, 10, 11; Lk 10:1-12

R. (9ab) The precepts of the Lord give joy to the heart.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul;
The decree of the LORD is trustworthy,
giving wisdom to the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
The command of the LORD is clear,
enlightening the eye;

The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever;
The ordinances of the LORD are true,
all of them just.

They are more precious than gold,
than a heap of purest gold;
Sweeter also than syrup
or honey from the comb.

Praying the Daily Gospels
- by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 10: 1-12 (The seventy-two emissaries)

Lacking the advantages of modern media to publicize his
visitations, Jesus designates seventy-two disciples to prepare the
way before him. Most noteworthy is the statement that he sends
them out in pairs. Married couples might claim this passage as an
affirmation of their own discipleship; single persons and celibates
must recognize in it a statement which emphasizes the need for
ministerial support.

- If there is a person in your life who knows you and accepts you
with all your faults, you will probably never have to worry about
your mental health," Carl Jung said. Do you have such a person in
your life? If not, resolve to find a spiritual director who can
offer you such a grace.

- People are lonely because they build walls instead of bridges,"
Joseph Newton wrote. Do you agree? Look over your coming day,
anticipating times when you can build bridges.

THE IMITATION OF CHRIST
- by Thomas a Kempis -

(Christ speaks)

Do not be anxious for the shadow of a great name, for the close
friendship of many, or for the particular affection of men. These
things cause distraction and cast great darkness about the
heart. I
would willingly speak My word and reveal My secrets to you, if you
would watch diligently for My coming and open your heart to Me. Be
prudent, then. Watch in prayer, and in all things humble yourself.
