MESSAGE OF THE DAY
The greatest Christians in history seem to say that their
sufferings ended up bringing them the closest to God - so this is
the best thing that could happen, not the worst.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Zec 8:1-8; Ps 102:16-18, 19-21, 29 and 22-23; Lk 9:46-50
R. (17) The Lord will build up Zion again, and appear in all his
glory.
The nations shall revere your name, O LORD,
and all the kings of the earth your glory,
When the LORD has rebuilt Zion
and appeared in his glory;
When he has regarded the prayer of the destitute,
and not despised their prayer.
Let this be written for the generation to come,
and let his future creatures praise the LORD:
"The LORD looked down from his holy height,
from heaven he beheld the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoners,
to release those doomed to die."
The children of your servants shall abide,
and their posterity shall continue in your presence.
That the name of the LORD may be declared in Zion;
and his praise, in Jerusalem,
When the peoples gather together,
and the kingdoms, to serve the LORD.

- Luke 9:46-50 (Who is the greatest?)
As Jesus' reputation has spread throughout the countryside, it is
only natural that the disciples should vie for status. Christian
identity has nothing to do with status or a competitive edge,
however. True greatness is bestowed upon people who are open to
accepting grace as a little child.
- How important is status and recognition to you? With whom do you
compare yourself in evaluating your worth as a person?
- Pray for the grace to form your identity more deeply in Christ.

Chapter 10: Unification of Mankind by Trinitarian Unity
Christ's humanity has its mystic fullness through union with God,
and it has its union with God through union with the Word. Hence it
is attached first and directly to the Trinitarian life as such; by
sharing in this life and unity -- it is made the principle of life
and unity for all mankind.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)
1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
