MESSAGE OF THE DAY
I was regretting the past and fearing the future. Suddenly God was
speaking: "My name is I am." I waited and God continued: "When you
live in the past, with its mistakes and regrets, it is hard. I am
not there. My name is not I was. When you live in the future, with
its problems and fears, it is hard. I am not there. My name is not
I will be. When you live in this moment, it is not hard. I am here.
My name is I AM."

SCRIPTURE READINGS

1 Tm 3:14-16; Ps 111:1-2, 3-4, 5-6; Lk 7:31-35
R. (2) How great are the works of the Lord!
I will give thanks to the LORD with all my heart
in the company and assembly of the just.
Great are the works of the LORD,
exquisite in all their delights.
Majesty and glory are his work,
and his justice endures forever.
He has won renown for his wondrous deeds;
gracious and merciful is the LORD.
He has given food to those who fear him;
he will forever be mindful of his covenant.
He has made known to his people the power of his works,
giving them the inheritance of the nations.

Praying the Daily Gospels

- Luke 7:31-35 (You can't please everyone)
Some persons thought John the Baptist was fanatical in his
asceticism; these same people probably believed that Jesus was
excessive in his sensual enjoyments. Jesus is undaunted by these
kinds of criticisms, however, for he has not come to please the
crowds but to do his Father's will.
- Do you enjoy sensual pleasures when experienced appropriately?
Do you seek out opportunities to experience and delight in good
food, fresh air, sunsets, hugs and kisses?
- Pray to be open to the graces that come to us through creation.

MYSTICISM
- by Evelyn Underhill -
Accept Poverty, however, demolish ownership, the verb "to have" in
every mood and tense, and this downward drag is at an end. At once
the Cosmos belongs to you, and you to it. You escape the heresy of
separateness, are "made one," and merged in "the greater life of
the All." Then, a free spirit in a free world, the self moves upon
its true orbit; undistracted by the largely self-imposed needs and
demands of ordinary earthly existence.
This was the truth which St. Francis of Assisi grasped, and applied
with the energy of a reformer and the delicate originality of a
poet to every circumstance of the inner and the outer life.

MEDITATING ON SCRIPTURE (Method of St. Francis de Sales)
A. Settling in: call to mind God's presence; address oneself to God
in vocal prayer.
B. Reading the Scripture passage slowly, prayerfully.
C. Exercise of the will and intellect in considering the message:
what is this passage saying? what is it calling forth from me?
D. Conclusion: acts of thanksgiving, remorse and intercessions
awakened by the meditation.
E. Application: Immediate follow-through on resolutions made.
