Dear Daily Spiritual Seed subscribers,

Picky spam filters on AOL and a number of other web hosts have been
blocking Daily Spiritual Seed lately, resulting in dropped
subscriptions. To help remedy this situation, I will be sending
Daily Spiritual Seed in plain text mode only. What this means is
no more stylized text (boldface, colors), no active links, and no
pictures, as the html format for those features apparently triggers
some spam filters. We'll stick to substance over style hope this
resolves the problem.

MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Forgiveness brings freedom - freedom from being controlled by the
past, freedom from the emotional ties to the offender, freedom from
the continual inner conflicts of bitterness and hate, freedom to
become whole and enjoy the fullness of life.
- Jeanette Vought

(Where in your life do you need to practice forgiveness? Pray for
the grace to let go of whatever is keeping you from becoming whole
and enjoying the fullness of life.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

1 Thes 4:13-18; Ps 96:1 and 3, 4-5, 11-12, 13; Lk 4:16-30

R. (13b) The Lord comes to judge the earth.

Sing to the LORD a new song;
sing to the LORD, all you lands.
Tell his glory among the nations;
among all peoples, his wondrous deeds.

For great is the LORD and highly to be praised;
awesome is he, beyond all gods.
For all the gods of the nations are things of nought,
but the LORD made the heavens.

Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice;
let the sea and what fills it resound;
let the plains be joyful and all that is in them!
Then shall all the trees of the forest exult.

Before the LORD, for he comes;
for he comes to rule the earth.
He shall rule the world with justice
and the peoples with his constancy.

Praying the Daily Gospels
- by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 4: 16-30 (Jesus and the Nazarenes)

From now until Advent, we will spend time with Luke's Gospel. We
begin by noting that Jesus receives mixed reviews from persons in
his home town. At first they are proud of him and of his eloquence,
but Jesus is not content to let them bask in the rays of this most
shallow of all sources of self-worth. Worth by association counts
for nothing if it is not complemented by faith and good works.

- How much self-worth do you derive from supporting certain
athletic teams? From belonging to certain civic organizations? From
your cultural heritage? From your denomination?

- What source of self-worth does Jesus call us to embrace? Ask for
this grace.

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY
from http://www.innerexplorations.com/chtheomortext/theolgems.htm

221. His human nature does not differ from ours except in the
intensity of its existence, and that but makes it the more human.

224. Christ's nature has this sociability, as it also has humanity,
in an eminent way that befits a human nature belonging to God. In
assuming and divinizing a human nature, God assumes and divinizes
all humanity. He assumes and divinizes human nature socially: the
Word has come to dwell in all of us through one of us.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)

1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
