MESSAGE OF THE DAY

When my enemies chase me down,
I run to Your arms,
where I can complain about my suffering
and You listen and incline Yourself to me.

You know exactly how to strum
the strings of my soul.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Col 1:1-8; Ps 52:10, 11; Lk 4:38-44

R. (10) I trust in the mercy of God for ever.

I, like a green olive tree
in the house of God,
Trust in the mercy of God
forever and ever.

I will thank you always for what you have done,
and proclaim the goodness of your name
before your faithful ones.

Praying the Daily Gospels
- by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 4:38-44 (Jesus' popularity grows)

No matter where he goes, Jesus is followed by large crowds. Many
seek healing, but others probably are merely curious. Because he
fears being misunderstood, Jesus forbids the evil spirits to speak
of him as the Messiah. He wants to reach the people without having
to work through their preconceptions.

- How does the work you do contribute to the building of God's
kingdom? Do you have a sense that your work is what you have been
sent" to do? What can you do to make your daily work more enriching
for yourself and others?

- Pray for the grace to find ways to love during work time.

MYSTICISM
- by Evelyn Underhill -

How then is this contradiction to be resolved: that the mystic who
has declared the fundamental necessity of "leaving all creatures"
yet finds them pure to enjoy? The answer to the riddle lies in the
ancient paradox of Poverty: that we only enjoy true liberty in
respect of such things as we neither possess nor desire. "That thou
mayest have pleasure in everything, seek pleasure in nothing. That
thou mayest know everything, seek to know nothing. That thou mayest
possess all things, seek to possess nothing. . . . In detachment
the spirit finds quiet and repose, for coveting nothing, nothing
wearies it by elation, and nothing oppresses it by dejection,
because it stands in the centre of its own humility. For as soon as
it covets anything, it is immediately fatigued thereby."
-- Part 2, Chapter 3

MEDITATING ON SCRIPTURE (Method of St. Francis de Sales)

A. Settling in: call to mind God's presence; address oneself to God
in vocal prayer.

B. Reading the Scripture passage slowly, prayerfully.

C. Exercise of the will and intellect in considering the message:
what is this passage saying? what is it calling forth from me?

D. Conclusion: acts of thanksgiving, remorse and intercessions
awakened by the meditation.

E. Application: Immediate follow-through on resolutions made.
