MESSAGE OF THE DAY
For happiness one needs security, but joy can spring like a flower even from the cliffs of despair.

(4a) Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.
They did not exterminate the peoples,
as the LORD had commanded them,
But mingled with the nations
and learned their works.
They served their idols,
which became a snare for them.
They sacrificed their sons
and their daughters to demons.
They became defiled by their works,
and wanton in their crimes.
And the LORD grew angry with his people,
and abhorred his inheritance.
Many times did he rescue them,
but they embittered him with their counsels.
Yet he had regard for their affliction
when he heard their cry.

- Matthew 19: 16-22 (The rich young man)
This is a parable for today’s people. Jesus tells the rich young man that it is not enough to keep the Law. Jesus challenged him to throw away false securities and become a disciple. Unfortunately, the young man found this invitation too difficult to accept.
• The philosopher
Schopenhauer stated that life vacillates between suffering (the fate of
the poor and broken) and boredom (the fate of the rich and secure). Do
you agree?
• Paul stated that the love of money is the root of all evil. How much money do you need to support the lifestyle to which you believe Christ is calling you?
• Pray for the grace to be more attached to the things of God.

THEOLOGICAL GEMS FROM EMIL MERCH'S THEOLOGY OF THE MYSTICAL BODY

- more on the Incarnation
213. The human nature, in all the perfection it can have, is human. To be God’s nature, it has to become divine.
216. In its substance the body was material, but nevertheless was spiritualized, because united to the spirit, it had a sort of "being of union" with the spirit.

LECTIO DIVINA METHOD (Benedictine Approach)
1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
