Reason is essential to the work of affirming and negating all that is and is not God, but the vehicle within us by which we finally meet God is the human will, our naked intent."
- Belden Lane, The Solace of Fierce Landscapes -
(Let go of everything and ask the Spirit to orient your will unto God in a naked intent of loving God and meeting God in this love. Let yourself "be" unto God in love, that God may be God for you this day.)

AM 3:1-8; 4:11-12; Ps 5:4B-6A, 6B-7, 8
MT 8:23-27
As Jesus got into a boat, his disciples followed him.
Suddenly a violent storm came up on the sea,
so that the boat was being swamped by waves;
but he was asleep.
They came and woke him, saying,
“Lord, save us! We are perishing!”
He said to them, “Why are you terrified, O you of little faith?”
Then he got up, rebuked the winds and the sea,
and there was great calm.
The men were amazed and said, “What sort of man is this,
whom even the winds and the sea obey?”

Praying the Daily Gospels: A Guide to Meditation, by Philip St. Romain,
2018 (3rd ed.)
____________
Matthew 8: 23-27 (Jesus calms a storm)
On the Sea of Galilee storms arise suddenly and violently. Just as quickly, they move along, leaving calm waters behind. Most significant in today’s reading is not a revelation of Jesus’ power over nature but a promise that if we have faith, he can calm the storms in our own lives.
• What are some sources of stress that you encounter regularly? Why do these situations cause you stress? How can you change your attitude about these situations to diminish stress?
• Pray for the grace to he more adaptable in stressful situations.

Treatise on the Love of God, by St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
____________
BOOK I: CONTAINING A PREPARATION FOR THE WHOLE TREATISE
Chapter 15: Of the affinity there is between God and man
Our soul then seeing that nothing can perfectly content her, and that nothing the world can afford is able to fill her capacity, considering that her understanding has an infinite inclination ever to know more, and her will an insatiable appetite to love and find the good;--has she not reason to cry out: Ah! I am not then made for this world, there is a
sovereign good on which I depend, some infinite workman who has placed in me this endless desire of knowing, and this appetite which cannot be appeased! And therefore I must tend and extend towards Him, to unite and join myself to the goodness of Him to whom I belong and whose I am! Such is the affinity between God and man's soul.
