The birds and almost all of dumb creation see the heavens, but it is given to us uniquely to behold the heaven as we stand erect, that we may seek religion there; that, since we cannot see God with our eyes, we may contemplate Him with our mind in the place where He keeps His throne.
- Lactantius -
(Rejoice in the fact of your faith, and invite God to direct your life from the throne of your heart this day.)

ACTS 20:17-27; Ps 68:10-11, 20-21
JN 17:1-11A
Jesus raised his eyes to heaven and said,
“Father, the hour has come.
Give glory to your son, so that your son may glorify you,
just as you gave him authority over all people,
so that your son may give eternal life to all you gave him.
Now this is eternal life,
that they should know you, the only true God,
and the one whom you sent, Jesus Christ.
I glorified you on earth
by accomplishing the work that you gave me to do.
Now glorify me, Father, with you,
with the glory that I had with you before the world began.
“I revealed your name to those whom you gave me out of the world.
They belonged to you, and you gave them to me,
and they have kept your word.
Now they know that everything you gave me is from you,
because the words you gave to me I have given to them,
and they accepted them and truly understood that I came from you,
and they have believed that you sent me.
I pray for them.
I do not pray for the world but for the ones you have given me,
because they are yours, and everything of mine is yours
and everything of yours is mine,
and I have been glorified in them.
And now I will no longer be in the world,
but they are in the world, while I am coming to you.”

During the next few days we will reflect on the long, beautiful prayer of Jesus as he anticipates his hour of passion and glory.Through this prayer, John continues to teach us the nature of the relationship between Jesus, the Father, and humanity.
* How is Christ glorified in humanity? How is he glorified in your life?
* The goal of Ignatius of Loyola was to do all for the greater honor and glory of God. What do you think of this goal? Is this your goal?

Treatise on the Love of God, by St. Francis de Sales (1567-1622)
____________
BOOK I: CONTAINING A PREPARATION FOR THE WHOLE TREATISE
Chapter 15: Of the affinity there is between God and man
As soon as man thinks with even a little attention of the divinity, he feels a certain delightful emotion of the heart, which testifies that God is God of the human heart; and our understanding is never so filled with pleasure as in this thought of the divinity, the smallest knowledge of which, as says the prince of philosophers, is worth more than the
greatest knowledge of other things; as the least beam of the sun is more luminous than the greatest of the moon or stars, yea is more luminous than the moon and stars together. And if some accident terrifies our heart, it immediately has recourse to the Divinity, protesting thereby that when all other things fail him, It alone stands his friend, and that when he is in peril, It only, as his sovereign good, can save and secure him.
