R. (cf. 1a) Blessed are those who fear the Lord.

Blessed are you who fear the LORD,
who walk in his ways!
For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork;
blessed shall you be, and favored.

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
in the recesses of your home;
Your children like olive plants

Behold, thus is the man blessed

The LORD bless you from Zion:

SAINT OF THE WEEK

- November 16th. St. Margaret of Scotland.

Daughter of one of the last Anglo-Saxon princes, Edward the
Atheling (+1057), she was born in 1046 and educated in exile in
Hungary during the Danish rule in England. She married Malcolm III
of Scotland in 1069, and proved a vital force for good in both the
Scottish court and church. She revived the abbey of Iona, and made
Dunfermline Abbey the Scottish equivalent of Westminster, a
burial-place for the Scottish royal family. Receiving of Holy
Communion, then a rare practice, was encouraged; Sunday work was
discouraged. She was cultured, here influencing her somewhat
rough-natured husband, pious and generous to the poor. Her husband
was killed in battle against William II of England; two of her own
sons, Alexander and David, became kings of Scotland. She died in
1093, was buried at Dunfermline and canonised in 1249. At the
Reformation, her body with that of her husband was taken to the
Spanish monastery of the Escorial, north of Madrid, and enshrined
there.

BOOK OF THE WEEK

"God's Little Devotional Book," by Honor Books, Inc. of Tulsa, OK.
2001.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1562922092/ref=noism/christia
nspiritu/

Fresh and captivating stories, illustrated with quotes from
Scripture or other authors, make this book fun to read and
inspirational as well. Every page is filled with the timeless
wisdom of the Bible which directs readers to their full potential.
This book can be called a road map for succeeding on the journeys
of life.

The book is filled with anecdotes, illustrations, and stories that
make one laugh and touch a soft spot in one's heart. The book
offers an expanded vision and new insights of Scripture applicable
to daily life. The stories can help one build an excellence of
character and strength of integrity. Readers of all ages, all
professions, and ways of life can profit by these encouraging words
of hope and truth.

One such story begins with 'When God measures a man, He puts the
tape around the heart instead of the head." Then the writer goes on
to speak of Lincoln as a man of remarkable patience, determination,
dedication, strong will, compassion, thoughtfulness, and
selflessness. Another story begins with "He who is waiting for
something to turn up might start with his own shirt sleeves." This
is followed by examples from the life of Teddy Roosevelt and his
conservation efforts. A third story begins with, "Real friends are
those who, when you've made a fool of yourself, don't feel you've
done a permanent job." One is then treated to the story of the
faithful friend Melanie in "Gone with the Wind."

JOKE OF THE WEEK

- Better remember the punchline

Not too long ago a large seminar was held for ministers in training.

Among the speakers were many well known motivational speakers. One
such boldly approached the pulpit and, gathering the entire crowd's
attention, said, "The best years of my life were spent in the arms
of a woman that wasn't my wife!"

The crowd was shocked! He followed up by saying, "And that woman
was my mother!" - The crowd burst into laughter and he gave his
speech which, went over well.

About a week later one of the ministers who had attended the
seminar decided to use that joke in his sermon. As he shyly
approached the pulpit one sunny Sunday, he tried to rehearse the
joke in his head. It seemed a bit foggy to him this morning.

Getting to the microphone he said loudly, "The greatest years of my
life were spent in the arms of another woman that was not my wife!"

His congregation sat shocked. After standing there for almost 10
seconds trying to recall the second half of the joke, the pastor
finally blurted out "...and I can't remember who she was!"
