MESSAGE OF THE DAY

"Adoration is the first and greatest of life's responses to is
spiritual environment; the first and most fundamental of spirit's
movement towards Spirit, the seed from which all other prayer must
spring. It is among the most powerful of the educative forces
which purify the understanding, form and develop the spiritual life."
- Evelyn Underhill

(Spend some time this day simply giving praise, thanks and
adoration to God. Don't stop until you sense the stirrings of joy
within.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

1 Cor 8:1b-7, 11-13; Ps 139:1b-3, 13-14ab, 23-24; Lk 6:27-38

R. (24b) Guide me, Lord, along the everlasting way.

O LORD, you have probed me and you know me;
you know when I sit and when I stand;
you understand my thoughts from afar.
My journeys and my rest you scrutinize,
with all my ways you are familiar.

Truly you have formed my inmost being;
you knit me in my mother's womb.
I give you thanks that I am fearfully, wonderfully made;
wonderful are your works.

Probe me, O God, and know my heart;
try me, and know my thoughts;
See if my way is crooked,
and lead me in the way of old.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"Love your enemies."

In the days following the Sept. 11, 2001, attacks, PBS' Gwen Ifill
interviewed Fred Rogers. The focus of their discussion was how to
help children cope with all that was happening. As the segment drew
to a close, Rogers addressed Ifill directly, adding that "big
people" needed a lot of special care now too, especially those who
had been working so hard to bring us this difficult news. The
kindly pastor's insight and personal concern seemed to catch the
always-on-top-of-her-game newswoman off guard. The moment was
poignant and somewhat humorous. I know it made me smile for the
first time in days. Little and big people, young and old, "good"
and "bad" -- we all need love.

"For the grace to love everyone, especially those who most need it,
we pray."

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

Some there are who resign themselves, but with certain
reservation;
they do not trust fully in God and therefore they try to provide
for
themselves. Others, again, at first offer all, but afterward are
assailed by temptation and return to what they have renounced,
thereby
making no progress in virtue. These will not reach the true
liberty of
a pure heart nor the grace of happy friendship with Me unless they
first make a full resignation and a daily sacrifice of themselves.
Without this no fruitful union lasts nor will last.
