MESSAGE OF THE DAY

"Yes, I have found my place in the Church and it is you, O my God,
who have given me this place; in the heart of the Church, my
Mother, I shall be Love. Thus I shall be everything, and thus my
dream will be realized."
- Therese Lisieux -

(To be Love for all whom we meet this day . . . )

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

1 Cor 4:1-5; Ps 37:3-4, 5-6, 27-28, 39-40; Lk 5:33-39

R. (39a) The salvation of the just comes from the Lord.

Trust in the LORD and do good,
that you may dwell in the land and be fed in security.
Take delight in the LORD,
and he will grant you your heart's requests.

Commit to the LORD your way;
trust in him, and he will act.
He will make justice dawn for you like the light;
bright as the noonday shall be your vindication.

Turn from evil and do good,
that you may abide forever;
For the LORD loves what is right,
and forsakes not his faithful ones.
Criminals are destroyed
and the posterity of the wicked is cut off.

The salvation of the just is from the LORD;
he is their refuge in time of distress.
And the LORD helps them and delivers them;
he delivers them from the wicked and saves them,
because they take refuge in him.

GOSPEL MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 5: 33-39 (Jesus, the bridegroom.)

Far from being rigid ascetics, Jesus and his disciples are
considered quite lax when compared with other Jewish notions of
spirituality. Jesus explains that he and his disciples are more
interested in celebrating life than in shriveling in old traditions.

- What are some of your 'old skins" that you find hardest to shed
for the sake of the gospel? Pray for the grace to be willing to
change these habits.

- Think of something worth celebrating today. Call it to mind
several times through the day and share your joy with others.

PRAYING WITH SCRIPTURE (Benedictine Approach)

1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "The Practice of the Presence of God," by Brother Lawrence

Brother Lawrence noted:

That the greater perfection a soul aspires after, the more
dependent it is upon Divine grace.
