The truth of the matter is, we all come to prayer with a tangled mass of motives altruistic and selfish, merciful and hateful, loving and bitter. Frankly, this side of
eternity we will never unravel the good from the bad, the pure from the impure. God is big enough to receive us with all our mixture. That is what grace means, and not only are we saved by it, we live by it as well. And we pray by it. - Richard J. Foster

MI 5:1-4A; MT 1:1-16, 18-23
R. With delight I rejoice in the Lord.
Though I trusted in your mercy, let my heart rejoice in your salvation.
Let me sing of the LORD, “He has been good to me.”

Reflection on the Scriptures |
We all need to be more like Joseph in our families and in our lives. We should try to be that person who is
patient in the face of frustration and problems. We should try to be steadfast, to sing of the Lord as in today’s Psalm: “He has been good to me” even when life is not going as we have planned. We know the right thing to do, but sometimes we are swayed off that path. We each have a long line of family ties and circles of friends who help form us everyday. But it is up to us to continually build our lives and our relationship with God, to work at becoming the people we are born to be in the love
of God. It takes a lot of hammering and sawing. Be patient. Be steadfast.

Revelations of Divine Love - by Julian of
Norwich Chapter
5
“God, of Thy Goodness, give me Thyself;—only in Thee I have all”
Also our Lord God shewed that it is full great pleasance to Him that a helpless soul come to
Him simply and plainly and homely. For this is the natural yearnings of the soul, by the touching of the Holy Ghost (as by the understanding that I have in this Shewing): God, of Thy Goodness, give me Thyself: for Thou art enough to me, and I may nothing ask that is less that may be full worship to Thee; and if I ask anything that is less, ever me wanteth,—but only in Thee I have all.
And these words are full lovely to the soul, and full near touch they the will of God and His Goodness. For His Goodness comprehendeth all His creatures and all His blessed works, and overpasseth without end. For He is the endlessness, and He hath made us only to Himself, and restored us by His blessed Passion, and keepeth us in His blessed
love; and all this of His Goodness.
