MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Let us not be content to pray morning and evening, but let us live
in prayer all day long. Let this prayer, this life of love, which
means death to self, spread out from our seasons of prayer, as from
a centre, over all that we have to do. All should become prayer,
that is, a loving consciousness of God's presence, whether it be
social intercourse or business. Such a course as this will ensure
you a profound peace.

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Acts 8:26-40; Ps 66:8-9, 16-17, 20; Jn 6:44-51
R. (1) Let all the earth cry out to God with joy.
Bless our God, you peoples,
loudly sound his praise;
He has given life to our souls,
and has not let our feet slip.
Hear now, all you who fear God, while I declare
what he has done for me.
When I appealed to him in words,
praise was on the tip of my tongue.
Blessed be God who refused me not
my prayer or his kindness!

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
"Do you really grasp what you are reading?"
Philip's question to the eunuch is one that should be repeated
often in every heart. The Sermon on the Mount and the Beatitudes
are pretty straightforward. Do we get sidetracked into trying to
justify wars, or do we deny medical services to the poor or look
the other way when we are faced with hunger or homelessness? We
need to ask ourselves repeatedly, "Do you really grasp what you are
reading?" If we did, we would treat all people as brothers and
sisters. We would live more simply and only use what we need. We
would share what gifts we have with those in need. We probably
should consider Philip's question every day.
"Lord, help us grasp your word and follow it, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Voice of Christ
If a man does what he can and is truly penitent, however often he
comes to Me for grace and pardon, "As I live, saith the Lord God, I
desire not the death of the wicked, but that the wicked turn from
his way and live";[52]52 I will no longer remember his sins, but
all will be forgiven him.
