MESSAGE OF THE DAY

When we once begin to form good resolutions, God gives us every
opportunity of carrying them out.
- St. John Chrysostom

(Make one for today, and be on the lookout for ways to put it into
practice.)

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Acts 13:26-33; Ps. 2:6-7, 8-9, 10-11ab; Jn 14:1-6

R. (7bc) You are my Son; this day I have begotten you.

"I myself have set up my king
on Zion, my holy mountain."
I will proclaim the decree of the LORD:
The LORD said to me, "You are my Son;
this day I have begotten you."

"Ask of me and I will give you
the nations for an inheritance
and the ends of the earth for your possession.
You shall rule them with an iron rod;
you shall shatter them like an earthen dish."

And now, O kings, give heed;
take warning, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice before him;
with trembling rejoice.

MEDITATION ON THE SCRIPTURES
- from
http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html

"I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the
Father except through me."

Jesus, only you know the truth. I am but a human being that only
knows doubts and fears. Teach me to open my mind, to trust that
you love me unconditionally, that every day I awake, breathing
heaven on earth, you are waiting just for me. Thank you for
making me a beautiful, one-of-a-kind image of your Father and
Mother. Send the Holy Spirit in others who love me too, who serve
to remind me that you are holding a place for me in your embrace,
where we shall all be one, in love with you, and with each other.

SPIRITUAL READING
- Fenelon's "Maxims of the Saints"

The doctrine of pure love has been known and recognized as a true
doctrine among the truly contemplative and devout in all ages of
the Church. The doctrine, however, has been so far above the
common experience, that the pastors and saints of all ages have
exercised a degree of discretion and care in making it known,
except to those to whom God had already given both the attraction
and light to receive it. Acting on the principle of giving milk to
infants and strong meat to those that were more advanced, they
addressed in the great body of Christians the motives of fear and
of hope, founded on the consideration of happiness or of misery. It
seemed to them, that the motive of God's glory, in itself
considered, a motive which requires us to love God for Himself
alone without a distinct regard and reference to our own happiness,
could he profitably addressed, as a general rule, only to those who
are somewhat advanced in inward experience.
