MESSAGE OF THE DAY

He said not, "Thou shalt not be troubled, thou shalt not be
travailed, thou shalt not be diseased;" but He said, "Thou shalt
not be overcome."

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Wis 2:1a, 12-22; Ps 34:17-18, 19-20, 21 and 23; Jn 7:1-2, 10,
25-30

R.(19a) The Lord is close to the brokenhearted.

The LORD confronts the evildoers,
to destroy remembrance of them from the earth.
When the just cry out, the LORD hears them,
and from all their distress he rescues them.

The LORD is close to the brokenhearted;
and those who are crushed in spirit he saves.
Many are the troubles of the just man,
but out of them all the LORD delivers him.

He watches over all his bones;
not one of them shall be broken.
The LORD redeems the lives of his servants;
no one incurs guilt who takes refuge in him.

MEDITATION ON THE SCRIPTURES
- from
http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html

Scripture points out that one thing is for certain. We will all
suffer trials in life and at times it may seem that the wicked are
winning or being rewarded. It would be easy to become bitter and
lose faith; to wonder, is God really seeing this? We can draw from
today's scripture readings that, yes, God is watching.

You wonder what Jesus thought. The Son of God comes among us and
those in power plot to kill him. The disciples appear clueless.
And the people in Jerusalem said you can't be the Christ; we know
where you're from! One wonders how frustrated Jesus must have
been. Did he question his mission or purpose? Did he think it
would be easier to be like the wicked ones? Or did he trust God
and discern the innocent souls' reward?

In trying times where God seems distant and injustice seems to
reign, we have a choice. We can distance ourselves from God or
move closer to God. It always seems to come down to faith and
trust. As we move towards Easter this is a time to think about
Christ and His sacrifice. The Lenten season offers us an
opportunity to spend more time with God. My prayer today is for
each of us to know the Lord is watching over us and to deepen our
relationship with God.

SPIRITUAL READING
- Fenelon's "Maxims of the Saints"

In the transformed state, or state of pure love, there should be
not only the confession of sins, properly so called, but also the
confession of those more venial transgressions, termed faults. We
should sincerely disapprove such faults in our confession; should
condemn them and desire their remission; and not merely with a view
to our own cleansing and deliverance, but also because God wills
it, and because He would have us to do it for His glory.
