MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Humility does not mean thinking less of yourself than of other
people, nor does it mean having a low opinion of your own gifts. It
means freedom from thinking about yourself one way or the other at
all.
- William Temple

(Blessed relief!)

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Ex 32:7-14; Ps 106:19-20, 21-22, 23; Jn 5:31-47

R. (4a) Remember us, O Lord, as you favor your people.

Our fathers made a calf in Horeb
and adored a molten image;
They exchanged their glory
for the image of a grass-eating bullock.

They forgot the God who had saved them,
who had done great deeds in Egypt,
Wondrous deeds in the land of Ham,
terrible things at the Red Sea.

Then he spoke of exterminating them,
but Moses, his chosen one,
Withstood him in the breach
to turn back his destructive wrath.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"You search the scriptures ... even they testify on my behalf."

Some scholars think that this statement by Jesus is intended as an
imperative, that they should search the scriptures for testimony
about his coming. Jesus was not the only miracle-worker in the
land. Skepticism is understandable. What is less understandable is
that we don't search the scriptures more for guidance, instruction,
wisdom. Today we remember John Baptiste de la Salle, one who
believed in the powerful influence of education and devoted his
treasure and his life to establishing schools for the poor. God
bless the teachers and preachers who open God's word to us.

"For all who are charged with the formation of others, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

- The Disciple

You, my God, the protector of my soul, the strength of human
weakness, and the giver of every interior consolation, have given
and still do often give in this Sacrament great gifts to Your loved
ones who communicate devoutly. Moreover, You give them many
consolations amid their numerous troubles and lift them from the
depths of dejection to the hope of Your protection. With new graces
You cheer and lighten them within, so that they who are full of
anxiety and without affection before Communion may find themselves
changed for the better after partaking of this heavenly food and
drink.
