MESSAGE OF THE DAY
The real test of a saint is not one's willingness to preach the
gospel, but one's willingness to do something like washing the
disciples' feet - that is, being willing to do those things that
seem unimportant in human estimation but count as everything to God.
- Oswald Chambers

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Jer 20:10-13; Ps 18:2-3a, 3bc-4, 5-6, 7; Jn 10:31-42
R. (see 7) In my distress I called upon the Lord, and he heard my
voice.
I love you, O LORD, my strength,
O LORD, my rock, my fortress, my deliverer.
My God, my rock of refuge,
my shield, the horn of my salvation, my stronghold!
Praised be the LORD, I exclaim,
and I am safe from my enemies.
The breakers of death surged round about me,
the destroying floods overwhelmed me;
The cords of the nether world enmeshed me,
the snares of death overtook me.
In my distress I called upon the LORD
and cried out to my God;
From his temple he heard my voice,
and my cry to him reached his ears.

MEDITATION ON THE SCRIPTURES
- from
http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html
In the gospel of John, we recognize the same sort of bold yet
humble rebuke from Jesus that we hear on Good Friday when the
soldier slaps him: "If I have said anything wrong, tell me; if not
why did you strike me?"
In John's gospel, Jesus does not suffer silently, in fact his
passion seems to take a back seat to his commanding presence. In
fact, Jesus reveals the glory of God on the cross as he "reigns"
there as King (INRI) and "hands over" the Spirit when he dies!
Amazingly, this is the conquering Christ whom the Church proclaims
on Good Friday in the narrative of John's Passion.

SPIRITUAL READING
- Fenelon's "Maxims of the Saints"
It is sometimes the case, that persons misjudge of the holiness of
individuals, by estimating it from the incidents of the outward
appearance. Holiness is consistent with the existence, in the same
person, of various infirmities; (such as an unprepossessing form,
physical weakness, a debilitated judgment, an imperfect mode of
expression, defective manners, a want of knowledge, and the like.)
