MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Where does your security lie? Is God your refuge, your hiding
place, your stronghold, your shepherd, your counselor, your friend,
your redeemer, your Saviour, your guide? If He is, you don't need
to search any further for security.
- Elisabeth Elliot

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Jer 7:23-28; Ps 95:1-2, 6-7, 8-9; Lk 11:14-23

R. (8) If today you hear his voice, harden not your hearts.

Come, let us sing joyfully to the LORD;
let us acclaim the Rock of our salvation.
Let us come into his presence with thanksgiving;
let us joyfully sing psalms to him.

Come, let us bow down in worship;
let us kneel before the LORD who made us.
For he is our God,
and we are the people he shepherds, the flock he guides.

Oh, that today you would hear his voice:
"Harden not your hearts as at Meribah,
as in the day of Massah in the desert,
Where your fathers tempted me;
they tested me though they had seen my works."

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather
with me scatters."

Jesus seems to be attacking apathy and indifference here, even the
status quo. It's so easy to accept things as they are without
question, much less action. But to stand by and do or say nothing
in the face of grave injustice is opposed to all Jesus taught and
lived. We must call our leaders to task if their policies cause
death, destruction or oppression. We must challenge large
corporations when greed supersedes just policies. We must fight
discrimination wherever we find it. Being "with Jesus" means taking
bold stands when remaining silent would be more comfortable.

"Lord, for an end to indifference and apathy in the face of
injustice, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

- The Disciple

O Lord, I come to You at Your command in simplicity of heart, in
good, firm faith, with hope and reverence, and I truly believe that
You are present here in this Sacrament, God and man. It is Your
will that I receive You and unite myself to You in love. Wherefore,
I beg Your mercy and ask that special grace be given me, that I may
be wholly dissolved in You and filled with Your love, no longer to
concern myself with exterior consolations. For this, the highest
and most worthy Sacrament, is the health of soul and body, the cure
of every spiritual weakness. In it my defects are remedied, my
passions restrained, and temptations overcome or allayed. In it
greater grace is infused, growing virtue is nourished, faith
confirmed, hope strengthened, and charity fanned into flame.
