MESSAGE OF THE DAY

The real conflict is inner conflict. Beyond armies of occupation
and the catacombs of concentration camps, there are two
irreconcilable enemies in the depth of every soul: good and evil,
sin and love. And what use are victories on the battle-field if we
ourselves are defeated in our innermost personal selves?

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY

Sir 42:15-25; Ps 33:2-3, 4-5, 6-7, 8-9; Mk 10:46-52

R. (6a) By the word of the Lord the heavens were made.

Give thanks to the LORD on the harp;
with the ten-stringed lyre chant his praises.
Sing to him a new song;
pluck the strings skillfully, with shouts of gladness.

For upright is the word of the LORD
and all his works are trustworthy.
He loves justice and right;
of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full.

By the word of the Lord the heavens were made;
by the breath of his mouth all their host.
He gathers the waters of the sea as in a flask;
in cellars he confines the deep.

Let all the earth fear the Lord;
let all who dwell in the world revere him.
For he spoke, and it was made;
he commanded, and it stood forth.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm

"Master, I want to see."

The blind man makes this simple request with complete faith, and
Jesus immediately heals him. In another way, we also want to see
with the insight and heart of Jesus. We want to see those who are
suffering and not just pass them by or quiet them as Jesus'
followers tried to do. We want to see the hungry in our very
neighborhood, so we can reach out and invite them to a nutritious
meal. We want to see the lonely, so we can take the time to visit
them or run errands for them or read to them. We want to see the
neglected child who needs a safe place to go after school or a
nourishing snack.

"O Lord, give us a new sight and heart, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

- The Disciple

My soul longs for Your Body; my heart desires to be united with
You. Give me Yourself -- it is enough; for without You there is no
consolation. Without You I cannot exist, without Your visitation I
cannot live. I must often come to You, therefore, and receive the
strength of my salvation lest, deprived of this heavenly food, I
grow weak on the way. Once, most merciful Jesus, while preaching to
the people and healing their many ills, You said: "I will not send
them away fasting, lest they faint in the way." Deal with me
likewise, You Who have left Yourself in this Sacrament for the
consolation of the faithful. You are sweet refreshment to the soul,
and he who eats You worthily will be a sharer in, and an heir to,
eternal glory.
