Audio conferences on the basics of the Christian faith with images

help process the information; there's already a lot of reflection
that's been shared, but more is always welcomed.

http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

4:35-41

R. (Mt 5:3) Blessed the poor in spirit; the kingdom of heaven is
theirs!
The LORD keeps faith forever,
secures justice for the oppressed,
gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets captives free.
The LORD gives sight to the blind;
the LORD raises up those who were bowed down.
The LORD loves the just;
the LORD protects strangers.
The fatherless and the widow the LORD sustains,
but the way of the wicked he thwarts.
The LORD shall reign forever;
your God, O Zion, through all generations. Alleluia.

THEOLOGY NOTE OF THE WEEK
- Immortality
Life without death anytime in the future. God is immortal. The
souls of people are immortal though their bodies are not. All
people can die in a physical sense but they continue on after
death. Therefore, it is the soul that is immortal. However, after
the return of Christ and the resurrection, the Christians' bodies
will also become glorified and immortal (1 Cor. 15:50-58). The
wicked will likewise be resurrected to immortality but they will be
cast into hell for eternity.

SAINT OF THE WEEK
- St. Joseph of Leonissa (1556-1612): February 4th
Joseph avoided the safe compromises by which people sometimes
undercut the gospel. Born at Leonissa in the Kingdom of Naples,
Joseph joined the Capuchins in his hometown in 1573. Denying
himself hearty meals and comfortable quarters, he prepared for
ordination and a life of preaching.
In 1587 he went to Constantinople to take care of the Christian
galley slaves working under Turkish masters. Imprisoned for this
work, he was warned not to resume it on his release. He did and was
again imprisoned and then condemned to death. Miraculously freed,
he returned to Italy where he preached to the poor and reconciled
feuding families as well as warring cities which had been at odds
for years. He was canonized in 1746.

BOOK OF THE WEEK
"Prayers for Healing: 365 Blessings, poems, and meditations from
around the world," edited by Maggie Oman. Conari Press, 1997.
-
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/ASIN/1573245224/ref=noism/christianspiritu/
This little book contains daily messages of hope, comfort, and
inspiration, one for every day of the year. The book invites the
readers to begin the day with a short meditative statement to get
one's day started right and in touch with God. The book is meant
for the one seeking a healing place, a place to take the time
(only a second or two) to listen to inspirational writers who know
the meaning of prayer. These are short statements you won't want to
keep to yourself, but will want to share with your spouse, friends,
coworkers, or the "man on the street".
The editor has borrowed from well known authors, such as Wendell
Berry, Rumi, Rilke, Martin Luther King Jr, and many more. The book
is meant for those who don't have a religion but wish they did. The
book is for those seeking peace and healing of mind and spirit. One
reader said, "This is a must for every home and workplace."
Do all the good you can,
By all the means you can,
In all the ways you can,
In all the places you can,
To all the people you can,
As long as ever you can. (John Wesley)

WEB SITE OF THE WEEK
The Holy Spirit
- http://www.theholyspirit.com/
Yes, it seems the Spirit has a web site, and surprisingly it's a
.com instead of .org (and blessedly isn't a .gov). There's some
good, basic teaching, here, including a spiritual gift inventory.
(Note - if you have a web site to recommend, please feel free to
email me.)

JOKE OF THE WEEK
- The speeding ticket
The Policeman recently stopped a woman for exceeding the posted
speed limit. He asked the driver her name.
She said, "I'm Mrs. Ladislav Abdulkhashim Zybkcicraznovskaya from
the Republic of Uzbekistan visiting my daughter in Tallahassee."
The cop put away his summons book and pen, and said, "Well... OK...
but don't let me catch you speeding again."
