MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Every evening I turn my troubles over to God - He's going to be up
all night anyway.

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Heb 5:1-10; Ps 110:1, 2, 3, 4; Mk 2:18-22

R. (4b) You are a priest for ever, in the line of Melchizedek.

The LORD said to my Lord: "Sit at my right hand
till I make your enemies your footstool."

The scepter of your power the LORD will stretch forth from Zion:
"Rule in the midst of your enemies."

"Yours is princely power in the day of your birth, in holy splendor;
before the daystar, like the dew, I have begotten you."

The LORD has sworn, and he will not repent:
"You are a priest forever, according to the order of Melchizedek."

REFLECTION ON THE GOSPEL
- from "Daily Bread"

"Otherwise, the wine will burst the skins, and both the wine and
the skins are ruined."

What futile practices do we follow in the name of faith? Do we
repeat the same prayers even when we feel as if we're no longer
connecting with the Lord? We get stuck in routine. We return to
familiar patterns even when they're unfulfilling or destructive.
Often our instincts are counterproductive. Our actions take us in
the opposite direction from where we need to go. And few of us are
comfortable living in the moment. We constantly make plans and look
down the road, blind to the demands of the here and now. We need to
find the Lord in our lives right now and make time to be in his
presence and rejoice while we have the chance.

"Lord, let us attend to you in our midst, we pray."

SPIRITUAL READING

The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage
by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)

We should also praise God by means of everything that we can offer
to Him. To praise God, means that all his life long a man
glorifies, reverences and venerates the Divine Omnipotence. The
praise of God is the meet and proper work of the angels and the
saints in heaven, and of loving men on earth. God should be praised
by desire, by the lifting up of all our powers, by words, by works,
with body and with soul, and faith whatsoever one possesses; in
humble service, from without and from within. He who does not
praise God while here on earth shall in eternity be dumb. To praise
God is the dearest and most joyous work of every loving heart; and
the heart which is full of praise desires that every creature
should praise God. The praise of God has no end, for it is our
bliss; and most justly shall we praise Him in eternity.
