MESSAGE OF THE DAY
The devotion of God to His creatures is perfect; He does not think
about Himself, but about them; He wants nothing for Himself, but
finds His blessedness in the outgoing of blessedness. Ah! it is a
terrible - shall it be a lonely glory, this? We will draw near with
our human response, our abandonment of self in the faith of Jesus.
He Lives Himself to us - shall we not give ourselves to Him? Shall
we not give ourselves to each other whom He loves?

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
1 Jn 2:12-17; Ps 96:7-8a, 8b-9, 10; Lk 2:36-40
R. (11a) Let the heavens be glad and the earth rejoice!
Give to the LORD, you families of nations,
give to the LORD glory and praise;
give to the LORD the glory due his name!
Bring gifts, and enter his courts;
worship the LORD in holy attire.
Tremble before him, all the earth.
Say among the nations: The LORD is king.
He has made the world firm, not to be moved;
he governs the peoples with equity.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 2: 36-40 (More prophecies about Jesus)
The religious heroes of all traditions usually come to us replete
with mysterious origins and wonderful prophecies; stories about
Jesus are no exception. It is said that I.Luke gathered much of the
material for his infancy narratives from Mary, who had treasured
the events of that time in her heart. Today's reading with Annas
prophecy may be one such event.
* How do you feel about the notion that Jesus grew in strength,
grace, and wisdom?
* What are you doing to keep growing in your appreciation of the
Church?

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
- The Disciple
The most devout King David danced before the ark of God with all
his strength as he recalled the benefits once bestowed upon his
fathers. He made musical instruments of many kinds. He composed
psalms and ordered them sung with joy. He himself often played upon
the harp when moved by the grace of the Holy Ghost. He taught the
people of Israel to praise God with all their hearts and to raise
their voices every day to bless and glorify Him. If such great
devotion flourished in those days and such ceremony in praise of God
before the Ark of the Covenant, what great devotion ought not I and
all Christian people now show in the presence of this Sacrament
(the Eucharist); what reverence in receiving the most excellent
Body of Christ!
