MESSAGE OF THE DAY

We never know how much real faith we have until it is put to the
test in some fierce storm; and that is the reason why the Saviour
is on board. If you are ever to be strong in the Lord and the power
of His might, your strength will be born in some storm.

(What "fierce storm" are you facing at this time in life? Invite
Christ to come on board the ship of your heart to steer you through
these troubled times.)

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Rom 10:9-18; Ps 19:8, 9, 10, 11; Mt 4:18-22

R. (10) The judgments of the Lord are true, and all of them are
just.

The law of the LORD is perfect,
refreshing the soul;
The decree of the LORD is trustworthy,
giving wisdom to the simple.

The precepts of the LORD are right,
rejoicing the heart;
The command of the LORD is clear,
enlightening the eye.

The fear of the LORD is pure,
enduring forever;
The ordinances of the LORD are true,
all of them just.

They are more precious than gold,
than a heap of purest gold;
Sweeter also than syrup
or honey from the comb.

REFLECTION ON THE GOSPEL
- from http://www.dailyscripture.net/

Jesus makes a claim which no one would have dared to make: He is
the perfect revelation of God. Our knowledge of God is not simply
limited to knowing something about God - who he is and what he is
like. We can know God personally and be united with him in a
relationship of love, trust, and friendship. Jesus makes it
possible for each of us to personally know God as our Father. To
see Jesus is to see what God is like. In Jesus we see the perfect
love of God - a God who cares intensely and who yearns over men and
women, loving them to the point of laying down his life for them
upon the cross. Do you pray to your Father in heaven with joy and
confidence in his love and care for you?

"Lord Jesus, give me the child-like simplicity and purity of faith
to gaze upon your face with joy and confidence in your all-merciful
love. Remove every doubt, fear, and proud thought which would
hinder me from receiving your word with trust and humble
submission."

SPIRITUAL READING
- Notes on Christian Prayer

- Contemplative Prayer -

2718. Contemplative prayer is a union with the prayer of Christ
insofar as it makes us participate in his mystery. The mystery of
Christ is celebrated by the Church in the liturgy, and the Holy
Spirit makes it come alive in contemplative prayer so that our
charity will manifest it in our acts.
("The Catechism of the Catholic Church," IV, 3, 1)
