MESSAGE OF THE DAY
The humblest and the most unseen activity in the world can be the
true worship of God... Work and worship literally become one. Our
chief end is to glorify God and to enjoy him for ever; and we
carriy out that function when we does what God sent us into the
world to do... Work well done rises like a hymn of praise to
eternal God.
.. William Barclay (1907-1978), "The Revelation of John, v. I"

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
2 Jn 4-9; Ps 119:1, 2, 10, 11, 17, 18; Lk 17:26-37
R. (1b) Blessed are they who follow the law of the Lord!
Blessed are they whose way is blameless,
who walk in the law of the LORD.
Blessed are they who observe his decrees,
who seek him with all their heart.
With all my heart I seek you;
let me not stray from your commands.
Within my heart I treasure your promise,
that I may not sin against you.
Be good to your servant, that I may live
and keep your words.
Open my eyes, that I may consider
the wonders of your law.

MEDITATION ON THE SCRIPTURES
- from
http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html
In the Psalm and the Gospel, we get a not-so-subtle reminder that
we need to walk the good path every day, every minute. We are
reminded of Noah and the flood and of Lot's wife. We need to
remember to do the right thing, even when it is uncomfortable or
hard. We need to remember that we don't know when that moment will
come. The Gospel quotes Jesus as saying, "Whoever seeks to
preserve his life will lose it, but whoever loses it will save it."
The concept requires us to let go and to not look back, a scary
proposition.
Taking the easy road might be tempting, but it's not a path we want
to take. The psalm offers some signposts for the right road, urging
us to seek God with our hearts and to open our eyes to God.

SPIRITUAL READING
- Fenelon's "Maxims of the Saints"
God, in the person of the Holy Spirit, becomes to the fully
renovated mind the great inward Teacher. This is a great truth. At
the same time we are not to suppose that the presence of the inward
teacher exempts us from the necessity of the outward lesson. The
Holy Spirit, operating through the medium of a purified judgment,
teaches us by the means of books, especially by the word of God,
which is never to be laid aside.
