MESSAGE OF THE DAY

O Lord our God,
Who has called us to serve You,
In the midst of the world's affairs,
When we stumble, hold us;
When we fall, lift us up;
When we are hard pressed with evil, deliver us;
When we turn from what is good, turn us back;
And bring us at last to Your glory.

- St. Alcuin (c. 735-804)

(Pray this prayer slowly, considering how it applies to your life
at this time, and praying your own petitions to God as you do so.)

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Phlm 7-20; Ps 146:7, 8-9a, 9bc-10; Lk 17:20-25

R. (5a) Blessed are they whose help is the God of Jacob.

The LORD secures justice for the oppressed,
gives food to the hungry.
The LORD sets captives free.

The LORD gives sight to the blind.
The LORD raises up those who were bowed down;
the LORD loves the just.
The LORD protects strangers.

The fatherless and the widow he sustains,
but the way of the wicked he thwarts.
The LORD shall reign forever;
your God, O Zion, through all generations. Alleluia.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614

- Luke 17: 20-25 (The kingdom among us)

An erroneous translation in the past said that 'The kingdom of God
is within you." The more correct translation is "The kingdom of God
is among you." The implication of the new translation is that God's
Spirit is most active in our relationships with one another.

- Where do you look for God? How can you tell when you are
experiencing God?

- Spend some time with the passage "The reign of God is
already in your midst." Pray for the grace to recognize God's
presence throughout the day.

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

- The Disciple

All seek their own interests. You, however, place my salvation and
my profit first, and turn all things to my good. Even though exposing
me to various temptations and hardships, You Who are accustomed to
prove Your loved ones in a thousand ways, order all this for my
good. You ought not to be loved or praised less in this trial than
if You had filled me with heavenly consolations.
