MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Lift up your heart to Him, sometimes even at your meals, and when
you are in company; the least little remembrance will always be
acceptable to Him. You need not cry very loud; he is nearer to us
than we are aware of.
... Brother Lawrence (c.1605-1691), "The Practice of the Presence
of God"

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Ez 47:1-2, 8-9, 12; Ps 46:2-3, 5-6, 8-9; 1 Cor 3:9c-11,
16-17; Jn 2:13-22
R. The waters of the river gladden the city of God, the holy
dwelling of the Most High!
God is our refuge and our strength,
an ever-present help in distress.
Therefore, we fear not, though the earth be shaken
and mountains plunge into the depths of the sea.
There is a stream whose runlets gladden the city of God,
the holy dwelling of the Most High.
God is in its midst; it shall not be disturbed;
God will help it at the break of dawn.
The LORD of hosts is with us;
our stronghold is the God of Jacob.
Come! behold the deeds of the LORD,
the astounding things he has wrought on earth.

REFLECTION ON THE GOSPEL
- from http://www.dailyscripture.net/
"Destroy this temple, and in three days I will raise it up." The
Jews did not understand that the temple Jesus referred to was his
own body. The "tent of his body" had to be destroyed to open the
way to the presence of God for us. Through his death and
resurrection, Jesus not only reconciles us with God, but he fills
us with his Holy Spirit and makes us temples of the living God (1
Corinthians 6:19-20). God's word enlightens our minds and purifies
our hearts that we may offer God fitting worship and enjoy his
presence both now and forever. Do you burn with zeal for the Lord's
house?
"Lord Jesus Christ, you open wide the door of your Father's house
and you bid us to enter confidently that we may worship in spirit
and truth. Help me to draw near to your throne of mercy with
gratitude and joy."

SPIRITUAL READING
- Notes on Christian Prayer
2715 Contemplation is a gaze of faith, fixed on Jesus. "I look at
him and he looks at me": this is what a certain peasant of Ars used
to say to his holy cur6 about his prayer before the tabernacle.
This focus on Jesus is a renunciation of self. His gaze purifies
our heart; the light of the countenance of Jesus illumines the eyes
of our heart and teaches us to see everything in the light of his
truth and his compassion for all. Contemplation also turns its gaze
on the mysteries of the life of Christ. Thus it learns the
"interior knowledge of our Lord," the more to love him and follow
him.
("The Catechism of the Catholic Church," IV, 3, 1)
