ANNUAL APPEAL

I have published 20 books through the years on various topics
pertaining to Christian spirituality, and most of
them have gone out of print. That's pretty common. Generally, a
publisher prints several hundred copies of a book to keep the price
per volume down, then, when they're almost sold out, has to decide
whether to do another run. Eventually, sales do slow down, and the
decision is made to drop the book.

Enter lulu.com, which has made it possible for me to re-publish
some of my older works in not only paperback form, but in various
ebook formats as well. That's taken quite a bit of time this past
year, but the results have been encouraging in the ongoing sales of
these books. I'm especially surprised by how many sell for
Amazon's Kindle eBook reader, and for Apple's iPad (and iPhone).
This has enhanced our Internet ministry by making availalbe more
resources for visitors. Check out

been done so far. There's still a ways to go, but it's a good start.

MESSAGE OF THE DAY

"Esther's story (Book of Esther, Chapter 4) demonstrates how God
chose a courageous woman to deliver the Jewish people. 'Taking off
her splendid garments, she put on garments of distress and
mourning.' Esther prayed to God, 'Help me who are alone and have no
help but you for I am taking my life in my hand'. Marjory Zoet
Bankson describes Esther's spiritual development as a
transformation from 'obedient servant' to a 'mature and
self-conscious woman in charge of her relationship with God'. In a
philosophical sense Esther was now ready to make ethical decisions
because she knew herself. In a moral sense she could now love more
fully because she could choose to give her own life to or for
another." - Bridget Mary Meehan -

Reflection question for journaling:
What might you choose to do this week that is helpful,
significant or creative that would benefit others?

Breath Prayer:
In the beauty of my being (breathing in) ... I reflect You
(breathing out).

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Rv 5:1-10; Ps 149:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6a and 9b; Lk 19:41-44

R. The Lamb has made us a kingdom of priests to serve our God.

Sing to the LORD a new song
of praise in the assembly of the faithful.
Let Israel be glad in their maker,
let the children of Zion rejoice in their king.

Let them praise his name in the festive dance,
let them sing praise to him with timbrel and harp.
For the LORD loves his people,
and he adorns the lowly with victory.

Let the faithful exult in glory;
let them sing for joy upon their couches;
Let the high praises of God be in their throats.
This is the glory of all his faithful. Alleluia.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Luke 19: 41-44 (Jesus weeps over Jerusalem)

God wants so very much for us, and we often settle for so very
little! This is what Jesus laments as he stands outside the gates
of Jerusalem, longing to share with the people of the city his many
graces. He knows he will be rejected, however, so he weeps for the
suffering this will bring to his people.

- What are some reasons why we settle for less than what God wants
to give us? With which of these blocks to growth have you recently
struggled?

- Are you satisfied with the promises made and goods delivered by
proponents of the great American dream? Why? Why not?

- Pray for the grace to hunger for the things of God.

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

- The Disciple

In You, therefore, O Lord God, I place all my hope and my refuge.
On You I cast all my troubles and anguish, because whatever I have
outside of You I find to be weak and unstable. It will not serve me
to have many friends, nor will powerful helpers be able to assist
me, nor prudent advisers to give useful answers, nor the books of
learned men to console, nor any precious substance to win my
freedom, nor any place, secret and beautiful though it be, to
shelter me, if You Yourself do not assist, comfort, console,
instruct, and guard me. For all things which seem to be for our
peace and happiness are nothing when You are absent, and truly
confer no happiness.

- Chapter 59
