MESSAGE OF THE DAY

Try so to live in the light of God's love that it becomes a second
nature to you; tolerate nothing adverse to it; be continually
striving to please Him in all things; take all that He sends
patiently; resolve firmly never to commit the smallest deliberate
fault, and if, unhappily you are overtaken by any sin, humble
yourself, and rise up speedily. You will not be always thinking of
God consciously, but all your thoughts will be ruled by Him, His
Presence will check useless or evil thoughts, and your heart will
be perpetually fixed on Him, ready to do His holy will.
- Jean Nicolas (J N) Grou (1731-1803), "Being Devoted to God"

(Christian maturity!)

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Eph 5:21-33; Ps 128:1-2, 3, 4-5; Lk 13:18-21

R. (1a) Blessed are those who fear the Lord.

Blessed are you who fear the LORD,
who walk in his ways!
For you shall eat the fruit of your handiwork;
blessed shall you be, and favored.

Your wife shall be like a fruitful vine
in the recesses of your home;
Your children like olive plants
around your table.

Behold, thus is the man blessed
who fears the LORD.
The LORD bless you from Zion:
may you see the prosperity of Jerusalem
all the days of your life.

REFLECTION ON THE GOSPEL
- from http://www.dailyscripture.net/

The Jewish leaders were indignant that Jesus would perform such a
miraculous work on the Sabbath, the holy day of rest. They were so
caught up in their ritual observance of the Sabbath that they lost
sight of God's mercy and goodness. Jesus healed on the Sabbath
because God does not rest from showing his mercy and love, ever.
God's word has power to change us, spiritually, physically, and
emotionally. Is there anything that keeps you bound up or that
weighs you down? Let the Lord speak his word to you and give you
freedom.

"Lord Jesus, you grant freedom to those who seek you. Give me
freedom to walk in your way of love and to praise and worship you
always. Show me how I can bring your mercy and healing love to
those in need around me."

SPIRITUAL READING
- Notes on Christian Prayer

2713. Contemplative prayer is the simplest expression of the
mystery of prayer. It is a gift, a grace; it can be accepted only
in humility and poverty. Contemplative prayer is a covenant
relationship established by God within our hearts. Contemplative
prayer is a communion in which the Holy Trinity conforms humans,
the image of God, "to his likeness."
("The Catechism of the Catholic Church," IV, 3, 1)
