MESSAGE OF THE DAY

We have ample evidence that the Lord is able to guide. The promises
cover every imaginable situation. All we need to do is to take the
hand he stretches out.

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Phil 3:3-8a; Ps 105:2-3, 4-5, 6-7; Lk 15:1-10

R. (3b) Let hearts rejoice who search for the Lord.

Sing to him, sing his praise,
proclaim all his wondrous deeds.
Glory in his holy name;
rejoice, O hearts that seek the LORD!

Look to the LORD in his strength;
seek to serve him constantly.
Recall the wondrous deeds that he has wrought,
his portents, and the judgments he has uttered.

You descendants of Abraham, his servants,
sons of Jacob, his chosen ones!
He, the LORD, is our God;
throughout the earth his judgments prevail.

MEDITATION ON THE GOSPEL
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614

- Luke 15: 1-10 (Two parables of mercy)

God's will may sometimes be difficult to discern, but we may always
be certain God desires that people come to know and love the One
who sent Jesus. We
should, therefore, pray for those who have fallen away and make
every effort to help souls turn toward Jesus who leads us to God.
When we do so, we can expect to share in the joy of the angels.

- Do you feel it is your business to try to influence other
people to embrace Jesus? Why? Why not?

- If a person is kind and virtuous but does not believe in
Jesus, should a Christian try to influence him or her to become a
believer?

- Pray that those who reach out to others may persevere in
love.

SPIRITUAL READING
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

- The Disciple:

What, Lord, is the trust which I have in this life, or what is my
greatest comfort among all the things that appear under heaven? Is
it not You, O Lord, my God, Whose mercies are without number? Where
have I ever fared well but for You? Or how could things go badly
when You were present? I had rather be poor for Your sake than rich
without You. I prefer rather to wander on the earth with You than
to possess heaven without You. Where You are there is heaven, and
where You are not are death and hell. You are my desire and
therefore I must cry after You and sigh and pray. In none can I
fully trust to help me in my necessities, but in You alone, my God.
You are my hope. You are my confidence. You are my consoler, most
faithful in every need.
