MESSAGE OF THE DAY

I swell with pride when I can face the whole world and say, "I
belong to Him. The mighty God of this universe is my heavenly
Father. I'm His by adoption. I'm a joint-heir with His wonderful
Son' In that moment when you're prone to be depressed, when you
find yourself in the spirit of bondage, look up. just pause and
remember to whom you belong.

LECTIONARY READINGS FOR THE DAY
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Eph 1:11-14; Ps 33:1-2, 4-5, 12-13; Lk 12:1-7

R. (12) Blessed the people the Lord has chosen to be his own.

Exult, you just, in the LORD;
praise from the upright is fitting.
Give thanks to the LORD on the harp;
with the ten‑stringed lyre chant his praises.

For upright is the word of the LORD,
and all his works are trustworthy.
He loves justice and right;
of the kindness of the LORD the earth is full.

Blessed the nation whose God is the LORD,
the people he has chosen for his own inheritance.
From heaven the LORD looks down;
he sees all mankind.

MEDITATION ON THE SCRIPTURES
- from
http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html

In today's reading from Ephesians, we hear about being chosen. It
was a common theme of the Old Testament about the Jewish Nation
being chosen by Yahweh; in the New Testament we hear about being
chosen by Christ. In today's parlance we may be more apt to think
of being called. Does this mean that somehow we are special and
will receive more favor from God than others who are not chosen?
Perhaps our parents had us baptized as infants and raised us as
Christians. Does that somehow make us more special in the eyes of
God than the individual raised in an environment that lacked any
mention of God or perhaps even mocked the belief in God. What does
this mean to be chosen or called by God?

SPIRITUAL READING
- Fenelon's "Maxims of the Saints"

The will of God is the ultimate and only rule of action. God
manifests His will in various ways. The will of God may in some
cases be ascertained by the operations of the human mind,
especially when under a religious or gracious guidance. But He
reveals His will chiefly in His written word. And nothing can be
declared to be the will of God, which is at variance with His
written or revealed will, which may also be called His positive
will.

If we sin, it is that that God permits it; but it is also true,
that He disapproves and condemns it as contrary to His immutable
holiness.

It is the business of the sinner to repent. The state of penitence
has temptations peculiar to itself. He is sometimes tempted to
murmuring and rebellious feelings, as if he had been unjustly left
of God. When penitence is true, and in the highest state, it is
free from the variations of human passion.
