MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Were you to simply remain in God's presence, that would be a great
help to you, supporting you in your troubles and helping you to
bear them patiently. Be sure that God is more ready than ever to
welcome you into his arms, and that as your distress increases so
does his mercy towards you increase and abound.

SCRIPTURE READINGS

Dn 7:9-10, 13-14; Ps. 97:1-2, 5-6, 9; 2 Pt 1:16-19; Lk
9:28b-36
R. The Lord is king, the Most High over all the earth.
The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice;
let the many islands be glad.
Clouds and darkness are round about him,
justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne.
The mountains melt like wax before the LORD,
before the LORD of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his justice,
and all peoples see his glory.
Because you, O LORD, are the Most High over all the earth,
exalted far above all gods.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
- from
http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html
The Transfiguration gives the apostles a glimpse of the glory of
God, a glimpse of what they have to grasp as they walk with the man
who is the son of God. While we also see that glory, it also
reminds us of the depth of what Jesus did when he became man and
when he died on the cross.
In the first reading, Daniel describes a remarkably similar vision
of power and majesty for the son of God. In the second reading,
Peter tells us that he is not just repeating myths of glory and
majesty: He saw the glory and majesty as an eyewitness. We may not
be on that mountaintop, but we can believe. Peter tell us: "You
will do well to be attentive to it,
as to a lamp shining in a dark place, until day dawns and the
morning star rises in your hearts."
That's my prayer for today. I want to be attentive to Jesus as the
son of God. When I am in a dark place, I want to open my heart to
see the lamp shining, the day dawning and the morning star rising.

SPIRITUAL READING
- Fenelon's "Maxims of the Saints"
The new or Christian covenant of grace, not only prescribes and
commands, but gives also the power to fulfill. In the practical
dispensations of divine grace, there are number of principles which
it may be important to remember:
1. God being LOVE, it is a part of His nature to desire to
communicate Himself to all moral beings, and to make Himself one
with them in a perfect harmony of relations and feelings. The
position of God is that of giver; the position of man is that of
recipient. Harmonized with man by the blood and power of the
Cross, he has once more become the infinite fullness, the original
and overflowing fountain, giving and ever ready to give.
2. Such are the relations between God and man, involved in the
fact of man's moral agency, that man's business is to receive.

PRAYING WITH SCRIPTURE (Benedictine Approach)
1. Relax. Settle in. Be aware that God is here, now, loving you.
2. Read a short passage of Scripture as though God were speaking
directly to you in it.
3. Choose a phrase from the passage that strikes you and repeat it
slowly, prayerfully, non-analytically.
4. When your heart is full, express to God the needs and sentiments
awakened by your meditation. When you're done, read another passage
and repeat steps 3 and 4.
5. If, at any time, you feel moved to simply be present to God in
loving silence, put the Scripture aside and rest in God.
