MESSAGE OF THE DAY

God is none other than the Saviour of our wretchedness. So we can
only know God well by knowing our iniquities. Therefore those who
have known God without knowing their wretchedness, have not
glorified him, but have glorified themselves.
- Blaise Pascal (1623-1662), "Pensées"

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Jer 2:1-3, 7-8, 12-13; Ps 36:6-7ab, 8-9, 10-11; Jn 20:1-2,
11-18 (Mt. 10:13-17, Ordinary Time)

R. (10a) With you is the fountain of life, O Lord.

O LORD, your mercy reaches to heaven;
your faithfulness, to the clouds.
Your justice is like the mountains of God;
your judgments, like the mighty deep.

How precious is your mercy, O God!
The children of men take refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They have their fill of the prime gifts of your house;
from your delightful stream you give them to drink.

For with you is the fountain of life,
and in your light we see light.
Keep up your mercy toward your friends,
your just defense of the upright of heart.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614

- Matthew 13: 10-17 (More on parables)

Although the parables are relatively simple stories, they are
nevertheless rich in symbolism. To appreciate their meaning, we
must allow them to confront our lives as a mirror reflects 1ack to
us our bodily image. The more time and effort we put into the
struggle of meditating on the parables, the greater will be our
reward.

- "In the spiritual life, if you're not progressing, you're
regressing." Do you agree with this? Why? Why not? In what area of
your life have you made progress recently?

- Pray for the grace to hunger for growth.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Voice of Christ

My child, now that you know these things and have read them all,
happy
will you be if you do them. He who has My commandments and keeps
them,
he it is that loves Me. And I will love him and will show Myself
to
him, and will bring it about that he will sit down with Me in My
Father's Kingdom.

- chapter 56
