MESSAGE OF THE DAY
Until the will and the affections are brought under the authority
of Christ, we have not begun to understand, let alone to accept,
His lordship.

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/
Jer 18:1-6; Ps 146:1b-2, 3-4, 5-6ab; Jn 11:19-27 or Lk
10:38-42
- Mt. 13: 47-53, Ordinary Time.
R. (5a) Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob.
Praise the LORD, O my soul;
I will praise the LORD all my life;
I will sing praise to my God while I live.
Put not your trust in princes,
in the sons of men, in whom there is no salvation.
When his spirit departs he returns to his earth;
on that day his plans perish.
Blessed he whose help is the God of Jacob,
whose hope is in the LORD, his God.
Who made heaven and earth,
the sea and all that is in them.

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:
- http://www.liguori.org/productdetails.cfm?PC=6614
- Matthew 13: 47-53 Parable of the dragnet
Today's parable teaches us an important lesson. Jesus has come to
transform humanity, but he also accepts the messiness of the world.
So, too, are we invited to accept our messy world and broken lives
as worthy of transformation.
- Imagine that God has cast a spiritual dragnet into your soul
today. What would be dragged out? What would you most like to
keep? What do you want to throw away?
- Pray for the grace to know that God loves you just as you are now.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis
The Disciple
Lord Jesus, as You have said, so be it, and what You have
promised,
let it be my lot to win. I have received the cross, from Your
hand I
have received it. I will carry it, carry it even unto death as
You
have laid it upon me. Truly, the life of a good religious person
is a
cross, but it leads to paradise. We have begun -- we may not go
back,
nor may we leave off.
Take courage, brethren, let us go forward together and Jesus
will be
with us. For Jesus' sake we have taken this cross. For Jesus'
sake let
us persevere with it. He will be our help as He is also our
leader and
guide. Behold, our King goes before us and will fight for us.
Let us
follow like men. Let no one fear any terrors. Let us be prepared
to
meet death valiantly in battle. Let us not suffer our glory to be
blemished by fleeing from the Cross.
