MESSAGE OF THE DAY

The final reality, and the ultimate fact of our total situation to
which we need to be adjusted, is God. That indeed would be my
definition of God: God is He with whom we have ultimately to do,
the final reality to which we have to face up, and with whom we
have in the last resort to reckon.
- John Baillie (1886-1960), "Christian Devotion"

(Spend some time each day considering the reality of death, and the
eventuality of your own. Pray that you may be ready when the time
comes.)

SCRIPTURE READINGS
http://www.nccbuscc.org/nab/

Is 26:7-9, 12, 16-19; Ps 102:13-14ab and 15, 16-18, 19-21; Mt
11:28-30

R. (20b) From heaven the Lord looks down on the earth.

You, O LORD, abide forever,
and your name through all generations.
You will arise and have mercy on Zion,
for it is time to pity her.
For her stones are dear to your servants,
and her dust moves them to pity.

The nations shall revere your name, O LORD,
and all the kings of the earth your glory,
When the LORD has rebuilt Zion
and appeared in his glory;
When he has regarded the prayer of the destitute,
and not despised their prayer.

Let this be written for the generation to come,
and let his future creatures praise the LORD:
"The LORD looked down from his holy height,
from heaven he beheld the earth,
To hear the groaning of the prisoners,
to release those doomed to die."

SCRIPTURE MEDITATION
from "Praying the Daily Gospels," by Philip St. Romain:

- Matthew 11: 28-30 (Burdens removed)

When we try to live life only out of the capital of our own
resources, we will surely become burdened. Those who embrace
Jesus' way are promised shared burdens and spiritual refreshment.

- What burdens do you need help shouldering? Tell Jesus about them,
articulating your feelings about these burdens. Ask him to let you
know he is with you. Resolve to share these feelings with a friend
whom you trust.

- Spend some time with the verse "Come to me...." Feel God's
desire for you.

NOTES FROM A CLASSICAL WORK
- "Imitation of Christ," by Thomas A. Kempis

The Disciple

Lord Jesus, because Your way is narrow and despised by the world,
grant that I may despise the world and imitate You. For the
servant is
not greater than his Lord, nor the disciple above the Master.
Let Your
servant be trained in Your life, for there is my salvation and
true
holiness. Whatever else I read or hear does not fully refresh or
delight me.
