The labor of self-love is a heavy one indeed. Think for yourself whether much of your sorrow has not arisen from someone speaking slightingly of you. As long as you set yourself up as a little god to which you must be loyal, there will be those who delight to offer affront to your idol. How can you hope to find inward peace? - A. W. Tozer (1897-1963), The Pursuit of God
(Let go of self-concern and of being offended by others. Invite God's peace to sustain you this day.)

R. The house of Israel trusts in the Lord.
Our God is in heaven; whatever he wills, he does. Their idols are silver and gold, the handiwork of men.
They have mouths but speak not; they have eyes but see not; They have ears but hear not; they have noses but smell not.
They have hands but feel not; they have feet but walk not. Their makers shall be like them, everyone that trusts in them.

Reflection on the Scriptures |
I am sure Jesus the man must have been overwhelmed sometimes at the numbers of people who sought him out and at the extent of their suffering. Today's Gospel tells us that his "heart was moved with pity for them because they were troubled and abandoned." We all feel that way sometimes. Lost. Wandering. Vulnerable. And you can bet that if you feel that way, others do too. Jesus
says there is a need for more laborers for the harvest. He can't do it all. We all must play a part in the community that is our faith. We can't just wait for someone else to do it.

Selected Quotes from the Writings of St. Hildegard of Bingen (1098-1179)
May the Holy Spirit enkindle you with the fire of His Love so that you may persevere, unfailingly, in
the love of His service. Thus you may merit to become, at last, a living stone in the celestial Jerusalem. - letter to the Monk Guibert, 1176
