Whatever you find in your heart to do in following God, that do, and remain within yourself in Him.
- Anthony of the Desert -

(Simple enough, but hard to do. What does this mean for you today?)

DN 13:1-9, 15-17, 19-30, 33-62;   PS 23:1-6;    JN 8:12-20

R. Even though I walk in the dark valley I fear no evil; for you are at my side.

The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want.
In verdant pastures he gives me repose;
Beside restful waters he leads me;
he refreshes my soul.

He guides me in right paths
for his name's sake.
Even though I walk in the dark valley
I fear no evil; for you are at my side
With your rod and your staff
that give me courage.

You spread the table before me
in the sight of my foes;
You anoint my head with oil;
my cup overflows.

Only goodness and kindness follow me
all the days of my life;
And I shall dwell in the house of the LORD
for years to come.

You judge by appearances, but I do not judge anyone.

This last week before Holy Week, all of the readings deal with justice or its miscarriage. Today, we have the wonderful story of Susanna, who is willing to sacrifice her life rather than give in to the lust of the powerful. While she is on trial for adultery, God raises up young Daniel to cross-examine her accusers and prove her innocence and their lies. In the Gospel, Jesus is talking with the Pharisees and observes that they judge others only on appearances. Then he makes a remarkable statement: "I do not judge anyone." We, who strive to emulate Jesus in all things, must follow his example in this.

To be less judgmental, we pray.

The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage, by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)

Now this rapturous meeting (between God and the soul) is incessantly and actively renewed in us, according to the way of God; for the Father gives Himself in the Son, and the Son gives Himself in the Father, in an eternal content and a loving embrace; and this renews itself every moment within the bonds of love. For like as the Father incessantly beholds all things in the birth of His Son, so all things are loved anew by the Father and the Son in the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. And this is the active meeting of the Father and of the Son, in which we are lovingly embraced by the Holy Ghost in eternal love.

- Third Book, Chapter 4: Of a divine meeting which takes place in the hiddenness of our spirit.
