He went around all of Galilee, teaching in their synagogues, proclaiming the gospel of the kingdom, and curing every disease and illness among the people.
Jesus is shown in the readings this week as the great teacher-healer. He opens up the scriptures to greater understanding and is a source of inspiration to his listeners. He is also the comforter and healer, even of physical ills. Ever since biblical times, Jesus' followers have attempted to pattern their ministry around teaching and healing, establishing great centers of learning and hospitals to serve the suffering. Today, we are reminded that they are a reflection of Christ's life of service to all. O Lord, bless our schools and hospitals with your spirit of service, we pray. - by Portia Clark
