Message of the Day
The "I" that works in the world, thinks about itself, observes its own reactions and talks about itself is not the true "I" that has been united to God in Christ. It is at best the vesture, the mask, the disguise of that mysterious and unknown "self" whom most of us never discover until we are dead.

(Awaken to your true self and all shall be well.)

Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
Dn 7:9-10, 13-14; Ps 97:1-2, 5-6, 9; 2 Pt 1:16-19; Mk 9:2-10
R. (1a and 9a) The Lord is king, the Most High over all the earth.
The LORD is king; let the earth rejoice;
let the many islands be glad.
Clouds and darkness are round about him,
justice and judgment are the foundation of his throne.
The mountains melt like wax before the LORD,
before the LORD of all the earth.
The heavens proclaim his justice,
and all peoples see his glory.
Because you, O LORD, are the Most High over all the earth,
exalted far above all gods.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
This is my beloved Son. Listen to him.
This passage attests to the fulfillment of the law and the prophets in the person of Jesus, and to the divine glory that he possesses. On a more practical note, it also offers valuable advice for our daily living. There are many competing voices vying for our attention. It's easy to listen to popular opinion or to our own selfish desires. We have to trust that God knows what we need to hear and will guide us to our own fulfillment. We must allow that voice to lead and transfigure us.
Heavenly Father, speak your transforming words to us, we pray.

Spiritual Reading
The Adornment of the Spiritual Marriage
by St. John of Rusybroeck (1293-1381)
Now consider the order and the degrees of all the virtues and of all holiness, with which we should go out to meet God through resemblance; that so we may rest with Him in the unity.
- The Gift of Fear
When a person lives in the Fear of God, in the moral virtues and in outward works; and when he is obedient and submissive to Holy Church and to the Divine commandments, and when he is ready and willing in simplicity of intention to do all good things: then he is like unto God, through faithfulness, and through the gathering of his will into the will of God, both in doing and in leaving undone. And he rests in God, above likeness; for through faithfulness and singleness of intention, he fulfils the will of God, more or less according to the measure of his likeness; and through love, he rests in his Beloved above likeness.
- Chapter 63: Of the ordering of all the virtues through the seven gifts of the Holy Spirit.
