Message of the Day
The body has many destinations, not just two. A great number of material roads lead to a great number of material places for bodies to travel to. The mind's roads are fewer, and the places that mental and rational roads lead to are also fewer: logical possibilities are more limited than physical possibilities. The spirit has only two roads, and two places at their ends (heaven and hell)."
- Peter Kreeft, Everything You Wanted to Know About Heaven
(This idea of the "two ways" is found in all the world religions. Be more aware today of the decisions you make, and whether they are guided by love or selfishness.)

Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
Acts 13:26-33; Ps 2:6-7, 8-9, 10-11; Jn 14:1-6
R. (7bc) You are my Son; this day I have begotten you.
"I myself have set up my king
on Zion, my holy mountain."
I will proclaim the decree of the LORD:
The LORD said to me, "You are my Son;
this day I have begotten you."
"Ask of me and I will give you
the nations for an inheritance
and the ends of the earth for your possession.
You shall rule them with an iron rod;
you shall shatter them like an earthen dish."
And now, O kings, give heed;
take warning, you rulers of the earth.
Serve the LORD with fear, and rejoice before him;
with trembling rejoice.

Reflection on the Scriptures
- http://onlineministries.creighton.edu/CollaborativeMinistry/daily.html
Jesus is trying to calm the company. They have forebodings of what is to come shortly. They may not fully grasp the horror of Jesus' impending death, but they know something bad is going to happen soon. And He wants to calm them, to reassure them, to reinforce what He has taught them over their time together.
Jesus tells them He is going to prepare a "place" for them in His Father's "house," and that they know the way to this place. Pragmatic Thomas, ever literal, protests that if they don't know where He is going (that is, they don't know where this "place" is), how can they know the way. Jesus reassures him that they do know the way - that Jesus and His way is the path to follow.

Spiritual Reading
On Cleaving to God
by St. Albert the Great
Let your spirit therefore arm itself against all temptations, vexations, and injuries so that it can persevere steadily in God when attacked by either face of fortune. So that when some inner disturbance or boredom or mental confusion come you will not be indignant or dejected because of it, nor run back to vocal prayers or other forms of consolation, but only to lift yourself up in your intellect by a good will to hold on to God with your mind whether the natural inclination of the body wills it or not.
