Easter Week 2012
Message of the Day
The benefits [of the resurrection] are innumerable. To list a few:
Our illnesses don't seem nearly so final;
Our fears fade and lose their grip;
Our grief over those who have gone on is diminished;
Our desires to press on in spite of the obstacles is rejuvenated...
Our identity as Christians is strengthened as we stand in the lengthening shadows of saints
down through the centuries, who have always answered back in antiphonal voice:
'He is risen, indeed!'"

Lectionary Readings of the Day
http://www.usccb.org/calendar/index.cfm?showLit=1&action=month
Acts 2:14, 22-33; Ps 16:1-2 and 5, 7-11; Mt 28:8-15
R. (1) Keep me safe, O God; you are my hope.
Keep me, O God, for in you I take refuge;
I say to the LORD, "My Lord are you."
O LORD, my allotted portion and my cup,
you it is who hold fast my lot.
I bless the LORD who counsels me;
even in the night my heart exhorts me.
I set the LORD ever before me;
with him at my right hand I shall not be disturbed.
Therefore my heart is glad and my soul rejoices,
my body, too, abides in confidence;
Because you will not abandon my soul to the nether world,
nor will you suffer your faithful one to undergo corruption.
You will show me the path to life,
fullness of joys in your presence,
the delights at your right hand forever.

Reflection on the Gospel
- from Daily Bread
http://www.preacherexchange.com/daily_bread.htm
And behold, Jesus met them on their way and greeted them.
Where do we need Jesus to meet us today? In a troubled relationship? In financial uncertainty? In anxiety over health? As we stand in the light of the Resurrection and walk away from the power of death, we need to choose how we'll go forth and what we'll proclaim. Just like the disciples, in this moment of great joy, we too may be unable to shake our fears completely. But Jesus, our hope, isn't in the tomb; he is beside us on the road, greeting us, embracing us and sending us to bear witness to his glory and to his promises kept. Sure, it's a little overwhelming. New beginnings tend to be like that, but we can go forth assured that we're not alone.
For the courage to run from the tomb and embrace life, we pray.
